WEEKEND PREVIEW, NEWS & NOTES

I’ll be off the rest of the week because of the holiday, so the weekend preview comes really early!

Once again, there will be two promotions going head-to-head in the Chicago area on Saturday. IWA Mid-South will be in Joliet, Ill., for its annual “Strong Style Tournament”, with Too Cold Scorpio, Brent Albright, B.J. Whitmer, and Eddie Kingston. Also, Amazing Kong vs. Mickie Knuckles. Only about 15 miles away, in Berwyn, Ill., AAW has a huge show with Tyler Black vs. Danny Daniels in an I Quit match, Jerry Lynn vs. Keith Walker, Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin vs. Truth Martini & N8 Mattson, and Austin Aries vs. Silas Young.

Sabu, Kip James, the Nasty Boys, Big Vito and Norman Smiley all will be on Planet Championship Wrestling, Nov. 24, Sarasota, Fla., the Robards Arena, with Apollo vs. Brent Dail, Sabu vs. Eddie Colon in a hardcore match, Nasty Boys vs. Norman Smiley & Hack Myers, Kip James vs. Big Vito, Mark Zout vs. Hector Guerrero, Ricky Santana vs. Barry Horowitz.

Homicide will wrestle for NWA Upstate on Saturday in Henrietta, N.Y.

In other news…

More on the Jake “The Snake” Roberts fiasco from Duluth, Minn., last Saturday. Here is what the Heavy on Wrestling promoter had to say: “When I met up with Jake Roberts Saturday he was intoxicated at 4pm. It wasn't to an extreme level but it was definitely noticeable. He and his buddy followed from the hotel to the sky dome and quickly set up to sell gimmicks. Throughout the night Jake proceeded to increasingly become more drunk while consuming numerous shots of tequila and mixed drinks. We did have a snake for him but the reptologist in charge of it felt Jake was not at a level to handle an animal safely. Jake proceeded to be rude to many fans. After purchasing a few action figures of himself from our gimmick tables he asked me for a bonus because we had a large crowd. I declined and started to wonder how I was going to get through the night. Jake was scheduled to be the main event but I made a very fly by night decision and threw him on before intermission and got him out of the arena.” He then added: “The match he had was not what he agreed to do and upset several Jake the Snake fans in attendance.” He finished by saying that Jake smoked marijuana at the gimmick table, and the venue got cited for a fire code violation.
