Puerto Rico News: Huge jumps and powerplay between rival groups, plus Carlito, Konnan, Masters, Killings Jan 8, 2008 - 1:49:47 PM
PWTorch.com reader Luis Cuevas sent an update on happenings in Puerto Rico this week...
Every Year, both of the to companies run their 3 Kings Day card and is the beginning of the year for both.
WWC held theirs at the Big Jose Miguel Agrelot stadium (capacity of 17,000) in front of 2,000 fans with a Main event of Carlito defeating Chris Masters, Ultimo Dragon defeating Joey Mercury, and Eddie & Orlando Colon defeating Konnan & Ron Killings.
IWA ran at the Pepin Cestero Stadium in Bayamon in front of 3,000 fans with not a lot of foreign stars. But the big news came from the IWA show where the unexpected happened and possibly the biggest news in wrestling history in Puerto Rico when wrestler Biggie Size who until an hour before was wrestling for WWC showed up with the WWC Universal Title belt. (He was not the champ as the title was vacant, but he was the last champion.) He challenged IWA Champ Blitz and lay down putting over the IWA Title over The Universal Title and mocking WWC and the belt.
WWC Officials went to the IWA card in Bayamon to look for the belt that Biggie had stolen and had an argument with IWA owner Mario Savoldi about the belt and Savoldi mentioned that IWA will return the belt once they pay Biggie (and the other wrestlers that jump) the money that was owed to them.
At the moment, IWA still has the Universal belt with Carlos Colon owner of WWC having to conduct a interview in a local newspaper trying to explain everything that happened and doing damage control. He said that the IWA has until Tuesday to return the belt or they would be pressing charges.
WWC is in turmoil as not only is the belt in IWA, but seven wrestlers including booker Moody Melendez jumping in a matter of hours from WWC to IWA. Not only did the Universal Champ jump, but also the WWC Puertorican Champ Jumping Jeffrey and WWC World Junior Heavyweight champ Niche Jump to IWA during the same day, leaving WWC in complete disarray. At first you might think is an angle, but the way both companies are is very unlikely as theirs is a lot of deep hatred between the owners of both companies.
