Thanks to John Masiulionis for sending the following interview recap of Scotty 2 Hotty on MondayNightMayhem.com...
The Big Mosh, Blade, and DFL opened the show, with Mosh mentioning that if he would try to attempt the worm, it would not be pleasant for the audience watching. Scotty said that he has seen some horrible worms over the past decade or so, and told Mosh not to feel bad. Scotty then added that Rob Van Dam is his pick for the "World's Worst Worm," and told Mosh he is in good company.
The Mayhem Crew brought up the upcoming Fan Slam convention in New Jersey, and discussed how there will will be a Worm contest that Scotty will be judging, and asked Scotty if there is any tips on how to do the worm the right way. Scotty said that a little known secret is that he wears knee pads under the big baggy pants he has worn throughout his career, which he believes has helped a great deal.
Mosh & Blade asked Scotty what it has been like being able to interact with his fans around the world more by working the independent scene. Scotty said that working with World Wrestling Entertainment was a "no-win situation," bringing up the example of fans waiting behind the arena, but not everybody getting to get a picture or an autograph -- but now by working the independents, there is time for that. He also mentioned that he is overwhelmed by all of the people he sees at these shows, and their stories dating back to the Too Cool era in 1999.
Mosh mentioned the upcoming WWE Tag Team Title Match at Judgment Day this Sunday night, with the make-shift tag team of "Mr. Money In The Bank" C.M. Punk & ECW Champion Kane challenging The Miz & John Morrison, and asked Scotty for his thoughts on the current state of tag team wrestling. Scotty brings up that in the 1980s, you could have a Survivor Series tag match with five established tag teams on each side. He also mentioned though, that awhile later, there was another crop of tag teams with The Hardy Boyz, The Dudleys, Too Cool, T&A, and several others, so he said "Who knows, man, give it a couple more years, maybe it'll come back around."
The interview then shifted to the topic of World Wrestling Entertainment's Cruiserweight division, and Blade & Mosh wanted to get Scotty's takes on the diminishing of the whole division itself (by "scrapping" the WWE Cruiserweight Championship), and if he thinks TNA has carried the torch with their X-Division. Scotty said that even back in 1997, the WWE did not put too much emphasis on the "lighter guys," which was evident when Scotty defeated Eric Shelly in a Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament Match, a guy Scotty said he never heard of before...and never heard of again. Scotty then mentioned that he has not seen a lot of TNA's product, but with the stuff he has checked out, he knows that there is "no way in hell" he can do some of the stuff they do.
In regards to working the independents, Scotty said that the past year has been one of the best years of his life, still being able to wrestle on at least a weekly basis, and being able to spend more time with his family. He mentioned that he lives in Orlando, minutes from Universal Studios, "but there has been no interest from them," alluding to TNA being right around the corner. He added that next month alone, he already has 15 dates including a week tour in England, and he still loves to perform. Check out Scotty's official MySpace page @ www.MySpace.com/Scotty2HottyWorm for where you can see "The Master Of The Worm" in the weeks & months to come...possibly in your hometown!
Scotty & The Mayhem Crew then started talking more in-depth about the upcoming Fan Slam Festival and some of the unique merchandise you can take home if you attend. For the first time ever there will be a "Pro-Wrestling Tricky Tray," with over 50 unique autograph prizes at Fan Slam, including: a Bruno Sammartino autographed robe, a "Rowdy" Roddy Piper autographed kilt, Jake "The Snake" Roberts autographed tights, Sting autographed chair, a special door prize of autograph trunks signed by the star of NBC's American Gladiators & WWE Hall Of Famer, "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan, a match-used ladder signed by John Morrison & Jeff Hardy, & much more. Blade said that you need to be a true fan in order to put a random ladder somewhere in your house, and then explain what it is doing there. Scotty then added that for some extra fun, if somebody wins both items, they can wear the trunks and climb up and down the ladder.
Fan Slam promoter, Tommy Fierro, then joined the show to help promote the event on June 21st. Tommy said that he ran his first wrestling convention when he was 16 years old, and throughout the years it just got bigger & bigger, until "everyone & their mother" started running one. He then took a break, and came back with a different feel this year to Fan Slam. Other stars appearing live to sign autographs & take pictures include: legendary WWE ring announcer Howard Finkel, Jerry Jarrett, TNA star Tomko, TNA Knockout Women's Champion Awesome Kong, TNA Knockout Angelina Love, Al Snow, Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore, Daivari, Bill Demott, "Johnny Fabulous himself" John Cena Sr., the manager of The Four Horsemen J.J. There will also be a filming of "The John Cena Sr. Show," a "Developmental Debate" with Al Snow & Bill Demott, a live shoot interview with Tomko, a "So You Think You Can Book" contest, & that's just the tip of the iceberg.
