By James Caldwell, PWTorch columnist

After a year-long absence from being in a wrestling ring as part of a match, Mick Foley is getting back in the ring at the TNA Genesis PPV in January 2009.

The storyline and match will be revealed over the next few weeks of TV on Impact, but Foley says it will involve A.J. Styles and Brother Devon, who he hopes will do their best in the ring that night.

"Always potential for a great match and always potential for a disaster," Foley told the Pain Clinic radio show in self-deprecating fashion.

Foley was asked about his recent reality TV show projects and Foley says the pilot he filmed with his family for A&E didn't get picked up because there wasn't enough fighting.

They used the same crew that worked on Jessica Simpson's "Newlyweds" show and Ozzie Osbourne's family reality show, but A&E didn't like what they saw enough to pick up the show for a series.

"We're not going to yell at each other like other families do," Foley said. "(They) were looking for a family that works a little bit differently. Worried it wouldn't be just like the other shows."

Foley says he's working on a sitcom with Rubert from Survivor, potentially involving Spike TV. He says "it's in the works," but he won't believe it until he sees it picked up.

On the reality TV front, Foley was quick to point to Hulk Hogan as an example of why he was ultimately happy their family show didn't get picked up because of how quickly Hogan's family apart in the fall-out from the show.

Foley says he wouldn't wish the same fate on any other family, then was asked about Hogan's other reality project, Celebrity Championship Wrestling. Foley was quick to knock the show, saying with a chuckle that it's "not winning the hearts and minds of big-time wrestling fans."

Foley was also asked about his departure from WWE to join TNA and if there was anything that caused him to leave other than Vince McMahon's methods for "producing" the announcers via screaming in the headset.

"That was really the only thing," Foley said. "I loved working with J.R., who I considered the best of all-time."

Foley added: "In the end, I think it worked out for everyone. My leaving opened the door for Tazz to come back to Smackdown and that opened the door for Striker to get the job on ECW."

He added that he would actually thank Vince McMahon if he ever saw him again. "I could not be happier than where I am, so everyone came up a winner," Foley said. "If I see Vince again, I'll thank him for putting him in that role."

Finally, Foley was asked which of the two options was the bigger recent event in Iraq: President George Bush having a show thrown at him by a reporter or Joey Styles KO'ing JBL.

Foley laughed and opted to comment on the JBL incident, saying, "I understand WWE has a gag order on both guys, so I don't know if we'll ever hear the true details. Bradshaw, when drinking, can be a little unpleasant."
