Thursday night at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., historical wrestlers such as Harley Race, Bob Geigel, and Butch Reed attended the premiere of the documentary, "K.C. on the Mat," which chronicles the history of pro wrestling in Kansas City.

The documentary, which was produced by former WWE writer Chris Gough, included an extensive interview with Bob Geigel. "The Pitch" reviewer Justin Kendall says "the star of the film is Geigel, whose knowledge of the era was sharp."

After retiring from wrestling, Geigel ran the NWA Central States promotion in the Kansas City territory from the 1960s to the mid-1980s. He was a central figure in promoting shows captured in Gough's documentary.

Kendall says the best part of the documentary is stories about the grandmother-type ladies who typically attended wrestling shows during the territory era.

"The absolute best is the couple of minutes spent on little old ladies Mertie and Gertie Hite," says Kendall in his review. "Geigel and the wrestlers recalled getting smacked by the ladies' purses. And Geigel tells a great story about the ladies' driver leaving him a special request: spread his ashes at Memorial Hall."

The documentary premiered in front of a few hundred fans in Kansas City on Thursday, but it will air across the Kansas City area on Metro Sports next week. The TV airing is Tuesday night, April 28 at 7:00 p.m.
