Former WWE and WCW star Lex Luger says he still has some regret over his famous debut on the first episode of WCW Nitro in September 1995 after leaving WWE without giving notice to Vince McMahon.

Luger had a handshake agreement with McMahon after his long-term contract expired. He said in a Video Q&A this week that he was trying to find a way to continue working in WWE but "things weren't working out."

"I will always have regret over that. I would have liked to have done things the right way and given Vince my notice," Luger said in his Q&A video presented by promolast.com. "I do have regret for that. But, at the time, I had to do what was right for my family."

Luger says that in the weeks leading to the Nitro debut, he didn't even know WCW was starting a Monday show. He re-visited the story of then-WCW wrestler Sting talking him into coming from "his TV to our TV."

Then-WCW president Eric Bischoff wanted to keep Luger's debut a secret for a surprise debut on the first episode of WCW Nitro. The result was the start of the Monday Night Wars after Luger worked a house show for WWE on a Sunday night, then was snuck into the Mall of America for the Nitro debut.

"I was brought into wrestling by (Japanese legend) Hiro Matsuda about proper protocol and respect for the business," Luger said. "Even if things didn't work out with Vince McMahon, I wanted to give two weeks notice."

Luger's comments come at the 39:45 mark of his one-hour Video Q&A. He also talks a number of subjects from his past in wrestling, shares a Bruiser Brody story, discusses the WWE Hall of Fame, and talks about his Christian faith.
