Former WWE and WCW star Lex Luger very candidly discusses "prevalent" steroid use by pro wrestlers, including himself, during his career in his latest Q&A video blog.

Luger describes in detail how steroids were the drugs of choice in the 1980s in both the NFL - where it was considered and off-season training tool - and in pro wrestling before the U.S. government classified anabolic steroids as illegal drugs in the late '80s.

"When I got into wrestling, they weren't even against the law or classified back then in the early '80s," Luger said in his blog sponsored by promolastevents.com. "They were prevalent. Not everybody was on them in wrestling, but even some of the referees were."

Luger says steroids became "out-dated" in favor of growth hormone and testosterone, which he said "we all hopped onto in the late '90s." Luger said it "was kind of the reality at the time that most of us did (HGH)."

Luger's performance-enhancing drugs of choice were testosterone and the steroid deca, which he says he cycled off every eight-to-twelve weeks.

"How much did it enhance me? I'm sure it did," Luger said. He added that he didn't stay on HGH year-round like some wrestlers, but cycled off to keep his internal body levels normal, which has prevented long-term liver and heart damage.

Luger's comments on steroids come at the 51:30 mark of his one-hour Video Q&A. He also talks a number of subjects from his past in wrestling, shares a Bruiser Brody story, discusses the WWE Hall of Fame, and talks about his Christian faith.
