Ring of Honor champion Tyler Black says the ROH locker room has decided to drop chair shots to the head and try to limit head shots in the ring to protect wrestlers.

"We pretty much decided as a consensus that we don’t want to do that, and that’s a great thing. I’m glad that WWE has decided to back to their roots with that sort of thing, because it’s really not safe and it’s causing guys’s careers to be short, and that’s not good for anybody," Black told Alfonso Castillo of Newsday in an interview promoting the Big Bang PPV on Saturday night.

"That’s not good for business, and that’s not good for families and friends in general. Hopefully, that becomes more of a trend and safety in the business becomes more of a trend, because I know over the last decade some of that caution has been thrown to the wind a little bit, as far as head drops and chair shots and guys taking care of each other. So hopefully we can get back to that and we can have longer, healthier careers."

Black also talked about one improvement he would make to the ROH TV show on HDNet after being asked how ROH could make the show seem more lively or having a spark to the show.

"It's the first time HDNet has ever filmed a show this way, and it's out first foray into television. So it's a work in progress. If there was any one thing I could change about the show, personally, it would be that we don't really cater to a youthful audience," Black said. "I wish we could convey that youth better - that fresh sort of vibe that style can bring to an audience. It's difficult, and I don't know how to get that across as well. So if there was one thing I could change, it would be that - to convey to the audience a more youthful, fresher product."

Caldwell's Analysis: Black pointed out that Necro Butcher is unpredictable with the chair shots, but there needs to be a punishment or fine involved in future chair shots to the head. It's a cheap way to get heat and the cost is much greater than any benefit. So, kudos to Black for stepping up as the company champion and publicly saying chair shots have agreed to be dismissed.
