OCT. 30 TAPING TO AIR NOV. 1
TNA returned to Orlando to tape Week Five and Six of their two hour show. The line outside of soundstage was pretty packed. They had TV's on above us that had the Genesis logo with "This Sunday" underneath it.
-Kurt Angle (w/ Karen) came out for a promo. He talked and hyped the PPV and said by the end of the night he will find out who Sting's partner is. Sting comes out and says his partner is a former WWE and WCW champion. Kevin Nash came out and said that Angle should worry about him too. Angle tells him to bring it and bails when Nash hits the ring, however Sting throws him back in and him and Nash play pingpong with Angle until he bails.
(1) Kaz defeated James Storm (w/Jackie Moore) in about three minutes to advance to the finals of the #1 Contender tournament. The finish was a very unique looking rollup that looked very cool. Eric Young came out after the match and he and Storm shared a six-pack of beer together.
-Team 3D came out. They cut a promo on internet marks and the like and say they will destroy the X Division. Motor City Machine Guns come out and made fun of Team 3D for being fat. D'Von goes looking for tables and can't find them. XXX and Havoc come out holding the tables. While they're distracted, Shark Boy, Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt come from behind and attack 3D. The rest of the X Division guys beat down 3D and go to put them through the tables, but Team 3D escapes. Shelley came across like a big star in doing most of the talking during the promo.
(2) Awesome Kong defeated Christy Hemme (w/Jimmy Rave & Lance Hoyt). Quick squash. Kong wins with a sitout powerbomb.
-Dave Penzer announces that Junior Fatu could not make the tapings and Christian will wrestle a replacement.
Samoa Joe [artist Grant Gould (c) PWTorch]
(3) Samoa Joe & Gail Kim defeated Bobby Roode & Traci. Good match. Kim pins Traci with a rollup. Roode starts yelling at Traci for losing and Kim grabs the mic and tells him she's tired of him treating Traci poorly and slaps him. Roode grabs her and Joe makes the save. The guys brawl up through the stands. Joe gains the upperhand until the plant from the last two week's of tapings (Rain from SHIMMER) starts going crazy screaming at him. Security takes her away. Roode throws Joe into the ringsteps and Joe starts bleeding HEAVILY. A lot of heat for this.
(4) Christian Cage defeated Chris Harris to advance to the finals of the #1 Contender tournament. Cage came out with a ladder. Short but good match. Cage wins with a rollup and grabs the ropes. After the match, Harris is arguing with the ref and Cage nails him with the ladder. He then comes off one of the top rungs with a frog splash. The second he hit the frog splash, his music began to play.
-Black Reign is shown backstage challenging Abyss to some type of match.
-Kurt was shown backstage with Borash smoking a cigar while Kurt interrogates Karen about who Sting's partner is. Nash shows up and says the partner is Scott Hall, and that he'll be there next week.
(5) A.J. Styles & Tomko defeated LAX to retain the TNA World Tag Team Titles. Match went about eight minutes and was very good. Styles got the pin with a springboard 450 Splash. The Steiners attacked LAX after the match and the two teams brawled to the back.
Xplosion Match: Motor City Machine Guns defeated Voodoo Kin Mafia. The voodoo manager went to blow mist in the eyes of Sabin, missed and hit B.G., who got rolled up for the pin.
Quick Thoughts: Fairly solid tapings. Too many rollups. Who would've ever thought that in 2007, one of the best tag teams in wrestling would be A.J. Styles and Tyson Tomko? If anyone who keeps track of the lineage of the WWE and WCW world titles can email me some info about Scott Hall's world title reigns, I would greatly appreciate it and will be sure to forward it to Kevin Nash.
OCT. 31 TAPING TO AIR NOV. 8
TNA returned tonight for Week 6 of their two hour Impact show. Scott Hall was announced last night as being here tonight.
(1) Christian Cage wrestled Kaz to a No Contest in the finals of the #1 Contender tournament. Cage at first scored the pinfall after interference from Tomko and A.J. Styles, but Matt Morgan came out and changed the decision and announced a rematch in a Ladder match at Genesis.
(2) Gail Kim defeated Alexis ?. Name was very hard to hear but she looked very good. After the match, VKM comes out on the ramp and distracts Gail, who turns into an attack by Roxxi Lavaugh. Angel Williams comes out and lays out Roxxi, followed by ODB who lays out Williams. Finally, Gail comes off the top with a missile dropkick onto ODB.
(3) Team 3D defeated Jay Lethal & Abyss. I'm not sure why Lethal and Abyss are teaming. Black Reign came out and brawled with Abyss to the back, enabling DVon to lowblow Lethal, who then got hit with a 3D for the pin. 3D lays Lethal on a table (which starts coming hilariously close to breaking) and whips him with their belts until he is saved by the Motor City Machine Guns.
-Kurt Angle comes out. He calls out Scott Hall. He doesn't come out, so Angle leaves. That was it. 30 seconds, tops.
(4) The ropes came down for a "Takedown Challenge" between A.J. Styles and Scott Steiner. Styles came out wearing a "Gainesville Vocational" singlet, which was very funny. Steiner kept blocking AJ's attempts at takedowns to the point where AJ threw a fit. As he was doing so, he grabbed someone out of his headpiece and threw it at Steiner's eyes to blind him. He scored three quick takedowns. Steiner came back with four of his own and was about to win until Tomko ran out. They brawled until Rick Steiner made the save.
The ringcrew then put the ropes back up and had a hell of a time doing it. A Comedy of Errors.
(5) Sting & Eric Young & Samoa Joe defeated Kurt Angle & James Storm & Bobby Roode. Good match. Traci and the Roode plant had a very long staredown. Standard six man match. Roode and Joe brawled to the back and Sting made Storm tapout clean with the Scorpion Deathlock.
-Kevin Nash came out and called out Scott Hall. He came out and the two bantered back and forth for a little while. Gray hair jokes, etc. Nash said he had to stop living life the way Hall did since he didn't want to lose his family. Hall says that he is not Sting's partner, and never will be, but will always be partners with Nash. The two hug and pose as Angle comes out. He demands to know who Sting's partner is. Sting comes out from the other ramp and tells Angle that he will "find out Sunday."
Xplosion match: LAX & Sonjay Dutt defeated XXX. By far the best match of the night. Finish was Daniels on Hernandez's shoulders, Homicide coming off the top with an Ace Crusher, and Dutt landing a 450 Splash for the pin.
Quick Thoughts: It's a bummer the best match on the show will be the match nobody ever sees. Where does Xplosion even air nowadays? Very little in-ring action this taping. Hopefully the Angle comedy stuff backstage is good, because there's going to be a whole lot of it.
