Mick Foley says one of the key factors in why he decided to leave a WWE broadcasting position for TNA was to make a difference, which is one of his motivations in wrestling. His wife noticed a change in attitude for Foley after his first meeting with TNA.

"She saw first-hand how unhappy I was as a WWE announcer. She knew that I was very enthusiastic after my first meeting with TNA," Foley told Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald. "She knew I was going to get a chance to make a difference which has always been a big thing for me."

Foley says the first sign that convinced him of the move to TNA was the relationship between Spike TV and TNA management. "My first meeting was actually at Spike," Foley said. "I was really encouraged by the fact that they were taking such an interest in one of their programs. I was with WWE for a long time, and I never met with the head of the network."

One of the keys for Foley in leaving WWE was his relationship with Vince McMahon that soured over time when Foley first thought about leaving for TNA in 2005. Foley says they had a good relationship up until that point, but it was never the same after that. "I no longer felt comfortable going into his office during TV tapings and eating free food," Foley quipped.

Caldwell's Analysis: The interview is consistent with Foley's statements since coming to TNA that he's happy with a change to make a difference, he was tired of being screamed at inside his headset (or his one good ear, as he put it), and the relationship with McMahon was strained after 2005.

Reading Foley's most-recent book, "The Hardcore Diaries," that WWE published in 2007, there is a considerable amount of tension between Foley and McMahon that Foley writes about. The book is about Foley pitching a major storyline to the creative team and McMahon, but Foley never gets a true sense that McMahon is buying into what he's selling. We get some insight into that in Foley's Miami Herald interview that their relationship was strained when Foley put feelers out three years ago that he was considering a jump to TNA.
