TNA/ROH News: Bret Hart doesn't see himself working for TNA; why he's working with ROH and Ric Flair

Former WWE star Bret Hart says he doesn't see himself working for the TNA promotion. Looking at the product, he says the only possible options for him on-camera would be storylines that he doesn't want to take part in.

"With TNA, they would probably have me be involved in their storylines, and I don't want to be as much a part of the storylines," Hart told Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald.

Hart says he has some good friends who work in TNA and he would like to help out the promotion, but he doesn't see where he could comfortably fit in.

"I don't see anything on their show where I would be any use to them, unless I wanted to play the role of some type of commissioner, chairperson, referee or even an announcer," Hart said. "Those are all things I don't really want to do."

On the contrary, Hart has agreed to work with Ring of Honor. Hart's first ROH appearance is July 24 in Toronto. He says working with ROH will be easier for him, as he doesn't have to be involved in storylines like he would have to in TNA.

"They contacted me to help and be involved in their Toronto show. I told them I would be happy to be a part of it," he said. "It's basically me coming out and signing autographs and saying a few words to the crowd."

Hart says he's glad to see a smaller company like ROH make progress when WWE has a monopoly over the wrestling business. "I am a fan of Ring of Honor in the sense that it has been a small-time promotion that has always been the one that stood out the most," he said.

After Hart's debut appearance in ROH, Ric Flair is scheduled to appear in Toronto the following night at the same venue. Hart says he doesn't anticipate any issues with Flair, who was critical of in his book and in recent interviews.

"I don't have any big problem with Ric Flair. I think we disagree on a lot of things, but I think in our own way, we have a lot respect for each other," Hart said. "He was a great wrestler for his era, and I don't take that away from him."

Caldwell's Analysis: Bret Hart doesn't seem like he would fit in TNA, which has basically tried to move as far away from actual wrestling on TV as possible while still calling itself a wrestling promotion. Of course, Hart could be playing coy to save a major surprise appearance since TNA loves adding star power to their roster via the surprise element.

TNA's ongoing TV storyline between Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley is building to a stalemate on who's actually in control, which would set-up a Bret Hart appearance to be the representative of "TNA management" that is constantly referenced on TV. Hart could play the Jack Tunney role of making proclamations from video and not have to make appearances in Orlando on a regular basis. Perhaps we'll see that down the line, but it doesn't sound likely.
