Prior to Monday's TNA Impact TV taping, members of TNA's production team addressed the TNA Impact Zone fans with instructions to "act like cast members" in the filming of a TV series and not distract talent from "telling a story" to viewers at home.
"You are cast members here. It's active, it's TV-14, please, I know it's fun to try to distract the talent up here, but they have to tell a story to two million people," said director of production Steve Small. "You're part of us. You're helping us tell the story. Please don't try and distract the story."
Small instructed the TNA fans not to "throw up gang signs" and not to chant "b.s." during the show, as it's difficult for him to edit every little thing during the show and there are kids in the audience who are "my future demographic."
"Every time you come here, I want you to be excited. What I cannot have from the audience are curses, flipped bird, and gang signs that I may not understand," he said. "Please, watch your language. Please, watch what you do. If I ask you to remove a sign, I'm not even sure the reason. Somebody in the truck saw something. We're going to be watching you. When we see this violation, we're going to ask you to move."
Caldwell's Analysis: I understand why TNA did this, as the fans attending TNA's shows get in for free and TNA is filming TV at a theme park where the audience is supposed to "support the show," but it smells fishy after the negative response to Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's show-opening promo at the Genesis PPV one night earlier. TNA is also trying to get the audience on their side with the creative direction changes, but to me, if they want to get the response they're looking for, they need to tighten up who's the heel, who's the face, and what the issue is. Oh, and make sure there are no more DQs in a Steel Asylum cage match that never should have been booked in the first place.
