TNA announced today the new "Reaction" TV show will premiere on Thursday, August 12 immediately following the "Whole F'n Show" Impact special. (Read the entire card for the Impact special.)

The weekly one-hour show will follow Impact each week to create a three-hour block of TNA programming on Thursday nights beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Spike TV picked up the new Reaction show after the "pilot episode" aired on April 12. The launch date has been pushed back twice before the show will premiere as a weekly series on Aug. 12.

In a press release, TNA drew attention to the "docu-drama" style of the TV production the show will feature. The calling card for the show is the "seemingly realistic" behind-the-scenes interviews drawing out TNA's wrestling characters.

Since the pilot episode aired, TNA has incorporated elements of the "Reaction style" interviews on Impact to give viewers a taste of the different format.

Quotes from the press release:

Eric Bischoff - "We experimented with integrating some of these elements into both Impact and Reaction. TNA's director of video production Kevin Sullivan worked closely with us to make this work, and the results are very cool."

Dixie Carter - "We are extremely excited that Eric and Jason (Hervey) have been able to bring their experience in reality and docu-drama formats to TNA in a way that would give our shows a different feel. We are very happy with the results."

Kevin Sullivan - "We have definitely hit the refresh button with some of these changes and I think fans will appreciate the pacing, look, and depth they are going to see on Impact and Reaction."

Caldwell's Analysis: The Reaction show is a good step for TNA advancing the style of presenting pro wrestling. However, in the big picture, TNA is essentially slapping a fresh coat of paint on a house that needs a foundation repair. TNA has incorporated the "Reaction style" camera presentation into Impact to mixed results. At times, it's been a good feature to advance storylines or set up matches. At other times, it's been yet another piece of a show being thrown at the audience like a child throwing a new color of paint against the wall.

TNA has cool toys to play with, but they often-times don't show the discipline on how to use all of these different tools to build a solid product. The result can be a complete mess at times, which is why they need to get their house in order (mixing metaphors here) with creative, marketing, management, and production before the Reaction show can be a successful addition to the company's portfolio.
