WWE Smackdown Report
February 13, 2009
Taped Feb. 10 in Fresno, Calif.

-- Edge and Vickie Guerrero to start the show. Edge, your WWE champion, isn't pleased about being forced to defend inside the Elimination Chamber at the PPV on Sunday. Edge is a heat magnet, but Vickie Guerrero is on fire as a heel. "Excuse me!" Vickie shouted. "Excuse her!" Edge added. That was awesome. Big Show out to calm Edge down. Show said every champion has to defend his title in the Chamber, according to the Board of Directors. Been a while since they were referenced. Edge and Show bickered after a tease of past "relations" between Show and Vickie, then Vickie resolved the opening question by booking Show vs. Kozlov vs. Triple H vs. Undertaker tonight. Off we go.

(1) MVP beat Chavo Guerrero via DQ. Legit "M-V-P" chant from the crowd now. Tazz said he thought he'd never hear that. MVP hit the Chono Boot on Chavo in the corner, then measured Chavo to finish him off, but Shelton Benjamin hit the ring to blindside MVP and cause a DQ. MVP was KO'ed, so Chavo took advantage by hitting a top rope frogsplash to add insult to injury. Now we'll see if MVP can make a babyface transition into seeking revenge. Nice storyline development between Shelton and MVP. Could be a WrestleMania-worthy match-up with a few weeks of quality TV build.

(2) World tag team champions Miz & John Morrison beat WWE tag team champions Primo & Carlito Colon (w/Bella Twins). Prior to the match, they had a backstage segment where the teams put a Valentine's Day date with the Bella Twins on the line. Pretty hot action to start, especially when Primo lit things up with Morrison. Primo is really impressive in there. M&M in control leading to a break. [CB] Action broke down post-commercial after a series of great moves from Primo. Miz then shoved Primo off the top turnbuckle and Morrison hit the Moonlight Drive for the pin and the win. Naturally, Miz was uber-excited and wrapped his arms around the Bellas, who were rather disgusted by the outcome. Well, initially they were. They seemed to not be as disgusted after some time with the World tag champs.

-- Red sports car sped up to the building. It's Sting! No, it's Jeff Hardy, who bro-hugged and high-fived babyfaces on the way inside the building.

-- After a commercial break, Jeff Hardy came to the ring in his street clothes ready to chat about his brother's betrayal. Huge reaction. Hardy said he's broken and feels like doing bad things to bad people, but Matt Hardy is his brother. Big bro is supposed to be a role model, but his jealousy is messed up. Cue up the dramatic music as Jeff said the Royal Rumble now reminds him of betrayal instead of good memories. He vowed to become WWE champion for the second time whether Matt likes it or not. He then dropped the mic and took off to a rousing ovation. Good, effective Jeff Hardy promo. Short and sweet with passion he's developed on the mic the past year.

(3) R-Truth beat Ezekiel Jackson (w/The Brian Kendrick). Big Zeke with a military press and big elbow smash on Truth early on. Ezekiel is quite the large individual. Truth built some momentum, but Ezekiel smashed him with a clothesline. Ezekiel wanted to finish him off, but Truth rolled through into pinning combination trapping Ezekiel's legs for the pin and the win. Quick match. Takeaway was Ezekiel looking very impressive despite taking the pin.

(4) Maria beat Michelle McCool. Fine divas match that ended with Eve coming to ringside to distract Michelle, allowing Maria to score a quick pin. A measure of revenge for Maria over McCool, who continues to play her heel role well.

-- Todd Grisham brought in Triple H, who was sporting a new Top Rope "Affliction designed" t-shirt. He put over the t-shirt, then told Grisham that his shirt says Destroyer. Hunter said that's who he will be on Sunday in the Chamber. His confidence is having been in the Chamber several times before, so he's grown to enjoy the pain and anguish. Hunter promised to walk out as champ.

(5) The Undertaker vs. Triple H vs. Kozlov vs. Big Show ended in a No Contest. Taker and Triple H worked together early on to clear the heels, then they had a staredown in center ring. Taker then threw the first kick and Hunter retaliated. Sweet exchange between two of WWE's top stars. Hunter with a Double A spinebuster, but Taker sat up and stared down Hunter until Big Show snuck up behind Taker. [CB]

Show nearly had a pin on Kozlov following a chokeslam, but Taker broke up the pin. Excellent exchange of moves featuring various combinations of one-on-one action. Show then went to the second rope for a Vader Bomb, but Taker moved and Show ate the mat. Kozlov got some of Show, but Hunter gave him the Pedigree. Taker then scooped up Hunter and gave him a Tombstone, but Show grappled Taker and chokeslammed him. WWE champion Edge suddenly hit the ring and speared Show, causing the match to be thrown out. Edge stood tall among a chorus of boos to close the show. Unsatisfying finish, but after some excellent in-ring physicality and exchanges, the heat was on Edge for ruining the match, not necessarily WWE for booking a No Contest.
