-TNA Opening
-A video package profiled Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett’s dealings since Foley entered TNA, focused on last week’s video of Foley attacking Jarrett.
-Impact Opening.
-Jeff Jarrett led off the show. He came to the ring, microphone in hand. Jarrett addressed Foley and said there’s not a lot for him to say. He said when an action takes place, a reaction always happens and tonight, he’s reacting. Jarrett talked about the four-way for Foley’s TNA World Heavyweight Title at Sacrifice. He said there’s still one slot open in the match....until now. Jarrett said Foley has forced him to make an executive decision, that being he’s the fourth man at Sacrifice. Jarrett said he ignited this fire and he’s damn sure he’s going to put it out. He said Mick isn’t fit to be TNA Champion. Well, I agree with that. He told Foley that, for the next three days: “Have a nice day.” As he was finishing up, Foley’s music hit and Mick came down to the bottom of the ramp.
Foley wasn’t happy and said he came out a few weeks ago and implied that Jarrett feigned a leg injury. In reality, Foley said he thought he heard Jarrett’s hamstring tear right off the bone. Unlikely, even in the world of wrestling. Foley said he went to the Asylum to make peace with Jarrett but something inside him snapped. He asked Jarrett what he’s going to sacrifice at Sacrifice. Foley suggested he put up his voting shares in TNA. He asked if Jeff was man enough to put up the shares. Jarrett responded, as Foley walked back up the ramp, by telling Mick to “turn your big ass around.” He met Mick in the aisle and said he’s all in. Apparently that means he’s putting his shares on the line. The phrase of the night is: “All in.” Jarrett’s music hit and Foley told us to pop for Jeff magically growing a set. He climbed into the ring as Jarrett stood on the ramp. Foley said he was going to put all four men involved in the title match in singles matches tonight. He said he’d put Jarrett’s whiny buddy Eric Young in a match against Sting. He suggested Matt Morgan wanted to prove himself to Kurt Angle, so he made that a one-on-one match. Mick said he wants to make sure Jeff’s hammy is well enough to fight on Sunday, so he’ll put him in a match against Samoa Joe. Foley said there’s a former World Champion walking around, wanting to take on the Hardcore Legend. Foley told that World Champion that he’s standing here and to bring it on.
-Kurt Angle was working himself into a frenzy (Scott Steiner’s words, not mine) backstage, with Jeremy Borash holding the mic. Angle was irate over Sting and he said Sting needed to know his role for Sunday. He seemed to be searching for Sting. You know you’ve gone nuts when Scott Steiner is trying to calm you down.
[Commercial Break]
-A look back to last week, where Suicide was attacked by the Motor City Machine Guns, Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed, with Daniels making the save.
-Lauren was backstage with Daniels and Suicide. She asked if the two could co-exist tonight as a team, knowing they’d be opponents at Sacrifice. Daniels said fans will see a different side of him and meet all challenges head-on. He talked about their match tonight against Creed & Lethal as well as the Guns. Daniels walked away and Lauren asked Suicide who he was. He replied, “I am......Suicide.”
1- LETHAL CONSEQUENCES vs. MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS vs. DANIELS & SUICIDE- THREE-TEAM MATCH
Daniels and Lethal began the match. They exchanged chops in the corner. Hip-toss, then a seated dropkick by Lethal. Shelley came in and was met with a leg lariat, then a powerbomb from Daniels. Double-teaming by the Guns. Lethal Consequences had to break up a few pins, then Daniels finally made a tag. Suicide came in and the crowd didn’t seem behind him that much. Springboard into a DDT for Sabin on Lethal, and it was a beauty. Shelley hit a frog splash on Suicide and Daniels made the save. The match broke down with referee Rudy Charles just standing in the corner, not even attempting to keep order. Daniels landed a moonsault on Lethal on the outside. Back to Sucide and Shelley in the ring. Code-Breaker by Suicide for three.
WINNERS: Suicide & Daniels, at 6:06. Good, athletic contest. Fun to watch.
Suicide disappeared after the match (and after the lights went out).
[Commercial Break]
-Mike Tenay sent it to JB in the back, still following Angle in his attempts to find Sting. Angle, JB and Steiner went up in the rafters to look for Sting. Borash asked what he’d do to Sting when he found him. Angle told him he’ll have to wait and see.
-Tenay and Don West previewed the Sacrifice card.
-A video package aired on Sting.
-They showed a video of Booker T and Kevin Nash training for their match at Sacrifice. They were sparring in the ring together and they took time out to cut promos on Joe & Styles.
[Commercial Break]
-Team 3D came out, as they showed a video of the British Invasion’s attack on 3D last week. Brother Ray got the mic and said they started their tournament to give back to tag-team wrestling. He said the tourney is going real well and they want to leave behind a great legacy of great tag-team wrestling in TNA. He said without tag-teams, they wouldn’t be standing out there being able to do this. Then they said one team has crapped in the hand that’s trying to feed them. Ray said the British Invasion are trying to make a name for themselves against the wrong team. He said even Beer Money has class and dignity, then said the Invasion isn’t showing them up ever again. Then the British Invasion came out, with the two briefcases they nabbed from LAX a few weeks back.
Brutus Magnus said them getting called out wasn’t necessary, they were going to come out anyway. I don’t recall Team 3D calling them out. Magnus talked about his insurance policy, that being Rob Terry. Then Team 3D quickly got tired of Magnus’ talking, and they beat him down. Terry made the save with a briefcase shot to each man. European uppercut off the top on Ray by Doug Williams. Terry with a running powerslam on Devon. Magnus said that’s how you make a name for yourself. They got a table from under the ring, but before they could put anyone through a table, Beer Money made the save and chase the Brits off with a chair. They helped Team 3D to their feet, then Robert Roode got the mic. He said one thing Team 3D taught them was if they want a fight, to fight fair. He said they’d see the Invasion at Sacrifice, then they’re coming to get their titles back from Team 3D. Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi backed up the Invasion.
-Lauren was backstage with Eric Young and Jarrett. Jarrett said he’s sick of Young’s whining and wants him to fight the match Foley made tonight. Jarrett told him to get the hell out after Young said Jarrett would regret saying those things about him.
[Commercial Break]
-Tenay once again sent it to the back, where Angle caught up with Sting. Angle raged and wanted to know what was going on. Sting asked if Angle watched the shows, or if he’s just in them. He said he got screwed at Lockdown, then Sting went off and said he got screwed too. He said it’s not about Kurt, but him and Foley. He said it’s about putting respect back in the World Heavyweight Title. Angle changed his tune and said he loved it. They ended up shaking hands on it.
2- ERIC YOUNG vs. STING
Young clapped as Sting came to the ring, then the two shook hands after the bell rang. A few lock-ups with two clean breaks, but Young didn’t break cleanly on the third. Stinger splash missed, then Young missed one himself. Clothesline over the top on Young. Young, imitating Ric Flair and Triple H in the same match, gets whipped into the buckle and propels himself to the outside. Well, he made it look better than Hunter usually does. Inverted atomic drop followed by a flying forearm for two on Sting. Dropkick missed and Sting locked in the Scorpion Death Lock. Young tried to get to the ropes, but couldn’t, and tapped out.
WINNER: Sting, at 3:02.
-Angelina Love was walking backstage with security at her side. The contract signing for her Sacrifice match with Awesome Kong is next.
[Commercial Break]
-Tenay wondered what former champion will face Foley tonight. Then JB did the Mean Gene hotline plug- but since we’re in 2009, it’s a TNA Moblie plug. Borash tried to coax the name of his opponent out of Foley. They did some comedy about Foley thinking he knows who Borash is thinking about being Foley’s opponent. He told Borash to go get a chair for him for backup in the match, because his opponent is tough.
-A video aired on the Awesome Kong vs. Beautiful People feud.
-Jim Cornette was in the ring with the referees and a table with red cloth on it for the contract signing. Corny introduced Angelina Love first. She came down with her security and Cornette sent them away. Awesome Kong came out with Raisha Saed and with Love’s 8X10 photo. The ladies signed the contract without any problems, then Cornette asked them if they had any last words about the match. Love wanted Kong to know that she was so sorry about everything that happened in the past at that at Sacrifice, they should tear the house down and have a great match. She was very positive and upbeat during this. She offered Kong a free make-over after the match. She insulted Kong’s hair, make-up and clothes, then said she’d send Kong to a fat farm, or just go for the lipo. Kong then said she’d be one of the Beautiful People if she did all that. The two shook hands, but Kong wouldn’t let go. She pulled Love in and picked her up in a choke. Then she hit a powerbomb on Rudy Charles when he tried to intervene. Good segment, but does anyone believe Love has a chance?
[Commercial Break]
-They showed what happened moments ago, with Love’s comments and Kong’s attack.
-“Earlier This Week....”: Lauren was in Dr. Stevie’s waiting room, angry and searching for him. Abyss was trying to calm her down. The receptionist said that Dr. Stevie was out of town on business and couldn’t be reached. Lauren was about at her wits end as she nearly dragged Abyss out of the office.
-A Kurt Angle video aired.
-Tenay and West went through the Sacrifice card again.
-West gave out the upcoming dates for TNA’s live shows.
-Lauren was backstage with AJ Styles. Styles talked about defending the Legends Title and how he’ll never say “I quit.” She asked about his current situation with Samoa Joe but Styles said there’s nothing between him and Joe.
[Commercial Break]
-Backstage once again, Lauren was interviewing Matt Morgan. She said he had a great opportunity to show Angle what he’s about tonight. He said he’s just making a business decision and he wants to play for a winner in the Main Event Mafia. He said he’s the most marketable man in TNA and there’s no one like him in the wrestling industry. Morgan addressed Angle and said he hopes Kurt doesn’t take this upcoming loss personally- it’s only business.
3- MATT MORGAN vs. KURT ANGLE
Morgan seemed confident even when the bell rang. He shoulderblocked Angle down, then splashed him in the corner. Angle ended up on the outside and Morgan took the fight to him there as well. He lifted Kurt up and swung him into the railings at ringside. About 1:40 into the match, they went to break.
[Commercial Break]
Morgan was still in control out of break, and had a rear-chinlock on Angle. Short-arm clothesline missed, so Angle turned it into a trio of German suplexes. Angle slam but Morgan got out of it. Carbon Footprint for a very near fall. Morgan tried a chokeslam but Angle rolled him up into an ankle-lock. Morgan turned over and kicked Angle off of him. Off the second rope went Angle, but Morgan caught him for a fall-away slam. Angle dodged a Hellevator and Angle small packaged Morgan for the win.
WINNER: Angle, at 8:14. I liked this match. Morgan got enough offense to seem credible but Angle went over cleanly- the right move.
Angle shook Morgan’s hand after the match.
-A video on Jeff Jarrett aired with him doing the voice-over about founding TNA.
-Lauren was backstage with Jarrett, and she said there’s a rumor that part of his hamstring is torn. She noticed he wasn’t dressed to wrestle, even though his match is next. Jarrett said it’s a war between him and Foley and the first one to blink loses. Lauren re-iterated the implications of his match tonight against Samoa Joe. He said once Foley loses the title at Sacrifice, business will go back to normal.
[Commercial Break]
-Jenna Morasca was standing by with Lauren. Jenna said they were all set to sign the papers last week relating to money for the Mafia, but there was one problem- and that was Sharmell. Jenna said Sharmell has until Sunday to apologize to her, or else there will be serious trouble.
-A video package on Mick Foley aired.
4- SAMOA JOE vs. JEFF JARRETT
Joe met Jarrett at the bottom of the ramp and the match was underway. He threw Jarrett over the railing and into the crowd. They fought up the stairs and almost in the fans’ laps. Jarrett fired back with shots to the head and back of Joe. He bounced Joe’s head off the wall that had the Sacrifice posters on it, and Joe did the same to Jarrett. They worked their way back to ringside, exchanging right hands. Joe kicked Jarrett in that injured leg and referee Mark “Slick” Johnson tried to prevent Joe from doing further harm, but Joe took him by the collar and tossed him into the railing. Joe stepped on Jarrett’s leg as Earl Hebner made an appearance, apparently to disqualify Joe.
WINNER: Jarrett, via DQ, at 2:44.
Joe took a chair to Jarrett’s leg to continue the onslaught, but AJ Styles came down to the ring to try and calm Joe down. It didn’t work- Joe attacked him and the two had to be separated by referees and security.
[Commercial Break]
-They showed what happened earlier tonight, with Foley assigning the four participants in the main event Sunday in matches tonight.
-Foley came to the ring with a mic and a chair. Oh, and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Foley announced that tonight, in a non-title match, he will battle one of the great superstars to set foot inside the ring. A household name, known throughout the world.....from the city of Brotherly Love......former Heavyweight Champion of the World......Rocky Balboa. That’s kind of odd.
A cardboard cut-out of Rocky was brought down to the ring by TNA security and a trainer. West talked as if it was really Rocky, saying he looks to be in great shape.
5- MICK FOLEY vs. “ROCKY BALBOA”
Never thought I’d have to write that while covering a wrestling show. One security guy played as Rocky, moving the cut-out as if to jab Foley. Foley sold it, then he hit a clothesline and pounded him in the head. Suplex by Foley. He picked Rocky up and piledrove him into the mat. Such devastation! Mick hit the ropes....several times, then dropped an elbow. Then he got the pin.
WINNER: Foley, at 1:30.
Foley got on the mic again and thanked Rocky for the match and he thanked the fans too. He called it the greatest night in his life and said, “yo Collette....I did it!” Jarrett came back out with his leg heavily taped, but not limping. Jarrett said Foley has made a mockery of TNA for the last time, then attacked him. Angle ran to the ring and picked up Jarrett, then dropped him in an Angle slam. He locked on the ankle-lock. Sting walked to the ring and Angle backed off. Foley hit Sting with a chair, Jarrett hit Angle with a Stroke and Foley finished Jarrett off with a chairshot. They focused on the challengers laid out in the ring while Foley walked backstage. Foley doesn’t have a ton of cred in the ring, so this was good to end with him standing tall to show that he has enough tricks up his sleeve to perhaps retain the title.
