Thumbs down show because I believe TNA had a poor effort trying to sell the TNA PPV on Sunday. I think TNA sold the audience on one match - Angelina Love vs. Awesome Kong - and sold us on A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe...at the next PPV. Meanwhile, the TNA Title four-way match featured a "wink wink" sham of a final match before the PPV. "Don't be mad at us for under-delivering," TNA would say. "Be mad at that crazy Mick Foley." Problem is that a good chunk of the audience (the money-spending kind) knows that TNA booked a sham main event and the heat won't be on Foley's character, but on TNA for another bait-and-switch. That will weigh heavily with the money-spenders on whether to order the PPV when the main event is expected to - based on the TV main event - end in a Quadruple No Contest with no one Sacrificing anything.

Christopher Daniels vs. Suicide would be a great PPV match for the X Division Title if the man under the Suicide mask were just wrestling as himself. ... Angelina vs. Kong should have a "final hour" PPV slot based on TNA actually booking a legit program from week-to-week (with the minor road bump of a Kip James cameo) that people should be interested to watch on Sunday. ... British Invasion vs. Beer Money could be good, but this forced British Snobbery that TNA is trying to present in 2009 is as ridiculously out-of-place as Kozlov in a Russian military outfit on WWE TV.

Both the UFC and TNA have PPV's this weekend. TNA's Impact go-home show aired prior to the one hour UFC Countdown show. The Countdown show was awesome and did exactly what the show should have done, it made me want to see the PPV. It was a simple build, two fights were profiled, one for a title and one to settle a grudge. No goofy segments, gimmicks or anything insulting. It was a fast paced, interview themed program that was great at building my interest level for the PPV. Within only one hour, I knew the matches, the fighters and the reason they were fighting.

Compare that with Impact, which was two hours and has had 4 weeks to build interest in their PPV. Two weeks ago, I thought TNA was building to the Motor City Machine Guns against Suicide/Christopher Daniels match on the PPV, which was the most interesting program TNA had going. Instead, they inserted Lethal Consequences into the mix and the program died. In fact, TNA gave that match away on free TV as a throwaway and now Daniels takes on Suicide at the PPV and I have no idea what the Gunns are doing at the show. Just an average show for me, meaning their business should stay exactly in the position its in.

Would've been another point higher were it not for the ridiculousness of the main event segment. No, this show didn't do a lot to promote the PPV on Sunday, but it did entertain me, something a TNA show hasn't done in a while, so it gets an automatic thumbs-up. One thing I did like was that they kept the Main Event Mafia segments to a minimum- only about five or six instead of nine or ten this week.

There wasn't a lot of in-ring time (something I'm getting used to on Impact), but the opening match was a fun romp, and Morgan vs. Angle was surprisingly good while it lasted. Kong and Love had a nice segment- I think people want to see Kong destroy Love rather than see the champion in peril. While the main event was a joke, at least after the "match" ended, all the title participants for this Sunday got to come out and make it look like TNA at least attempted to sell the PPV. Having Foley stand tall at the end was good as I don't think a lot of people buy him as a real champ, so this shows he may just have what it takes to pull it out again.

After teasing a vicious video last week, only to get the standard fare, Mick Foley pulled the old bait and switch again tonight. The former world champion who has never set foot in a TNA ring was nothing more than a cardboard cutout of Rocky Balboa. It gave Mick Foley the edge going into his match this Sunday and helped to establish his heel side, but constant bait and switches could have a negative impact for the fans. Cheap show endings like this week after week could devalue major announcements in the future as the fans will begin to expect something that's not quite as major as what is promised.

The undercard this Sunday is underwhelming at best, as I am excited for only one match other than the main event. The tag title tournament has been built up nicely between Beer Money, The British Invasion and 3D. We get all three character styles in the tag division, as the Brits are heels, Beer Money are 'tweeners, and 3D the faces. The mutual respect between Beer Money and 3D could be signaling a face turn for Beer Money, as a lot of their act is better suited for a comedy fan-favorite role.

The rest of the show didn't do much for me this evening. A.J. Styles gave a decent promo about his "I Quit" match, but we got nothing from Booker T about the match. Nash vs. Joe seemed like a last minute addition as the two were not even in a segment together tonight. The Knockouts match doesn't do much for me either, as I still feel Kong is better suited for the dominant heel role. With a weak undercard and a four-way main event with some aging stars, many fans may have to "Sacrifice" their hard earned money to see a run-of-the-mill PPV this Sunday.

Daniel Wilkenfeld, PWTorch.com Contributor (8.0)

This is the first show in weeks I've really enjoyed. They managed to put on entertaining segments that made me care more about the PPV matches, which is the goal of any pre-PPV shows. They even sold me on Jarrett being in the main event, which I wouldn't have thought possible. No doubt some people will be annoyed by the lack of wrestling, and I could have even gone for a bit more. Also, there were some weird pacing issues with the plethora of replays, previews, cross the line packages, etc. Those are small gripes though. Good work.
