Florida Championship Wrestling TV Report
June 28, 2009
Aired on the Bright House Sports Network
Report by Cody Endres, PWTorch contributor

-Backstage there was a chaotic scene in FCW President Steve Keirn's office. Fletcher Chase, Abraham Washington, Dawson Alexander, and an assortment of referees were all shouting at one another. Keirn asked one of the refs where the final ballot box was to decide who the next FCW General Manager was.

-Announcers Dusty Rhodes and Byron Saxton open the show. Tonight we will finally name a General Manager. Rhodes said there was something shady going on with the voting. Well they are in Florida. In our main event, #1 Contender Tyler Reks challenges Drew McIntyre for the FCW Title.

1 – FCW Tag Champs TRENT BERETTA & CAYLEN CROFT vs. ERIC ESCOBAR & HEATH SLATER – Non-title Match

Alicia Fox has ring announcing duty for this show. Before the match starts, Dusty wonders if enough fans wrote his name on the ballot so that he could become General Manager. They wouldn't have to get an office ready for Dusty - just throw a few hay bales in the back of his truck. (Caldwell's Note: Great TNA on FSN reference.) Slater hits a flying forearm smash on Croft early. Croft quickly tags in Beretta. Escobar & Slater with a double back elbow on Beretta. Beretta grabs Slater and throws him throat first across the second rope. The heels work over Slater for a while. The fans get a "Heath" chant going. Slater makes the hot tag and Escobar cleans house. Escobar with a leg drop off the second rope onto Croft for a nearfall. Escobar lifts Croft up for a suplex, but Beretta grabs his foot so Croft falls on top of Escobar. From the floor, Beretta holds Escobar's foot down while Croft makes the cover for the cheap victory.

WINNERS: Trent Beretta & Caylen Croft in 7:11. Decent opener.

[Commercial Break]

2 – DYLAN KLEIN vs. SWEET PAPI SANCHEZ

As usual, Sanchez hands out candy to the youngsters at ringside. These kids could become diabetic if this goes on much longer. Sanchez with a stiff clothesline early on. Dusty said that Sanchez comes out of Puerto RICA. That's Texan for Puerto Rico. Sanchez misses a splash in the corner. Klein begins to work over the leg of Sanchez. Both men miss elbow drops on one another. Sanchez hits a Bionic Elbow to Dusty's delight. Sanchez with a big boot and a splash for the win.

WINNER: Sweet Papi Sanchez in 2:46. Sanchez plays his babyface role well with the local fans, but he's an example of someone who will probably never make it beyond FCW.

[Commercial Break]

3 – CHRIS RAABER vs. AIDEN FROST

Raaber is from Austria and used to be known as Chris the Bambikiller. Frost is making his FCW TV debut. Frost dominates early on with some European uppercuts. Raaber gets in a bit of offense before Frost nails him with a nasty lariat. Frost hits the Bell Ringer (Island Driver) for the quick win.

WINNER: Aiden Frost in 2:48. These two didn't mesh well together. Too short to judge the potential of Frost.

-Backstage the argument continued in FCW President Steve Keirn's office. Sweet Papi Sanchez gave Keirn a piece of candy. Some gopher ran in and gave Keirn the election results in a manila envelope.

[Commercial Break]

-FCW President Steve Keirn and Dawson Alexander entered the ring. Keirn is chewing gum while he talks. Keirn thanked all the fans who voted on their website and at live events. Keirn announced that voting yielded a unanimous decision. The new FCW General Manager is Abraham Washington. Washington came out flanked by his agents to celebrate. In the ring, Washington danced around and even busted out a moonwalk. Washington told the fans they could boo all they want because this wasn't Showtime at the Apollo and he isn't going anywhere. He thanked his mother. "I told you I was gonna do it Momma. I told you I wasn't gonna work at that carwash forever." Washington thanked the big man upstairs – his overweight landlord two floors above him that tried to evict him. "I ain't paying the rent so you and your lawyers can quit calling me, I have caller ID." Washington said the last person he had to thank was his opponent Fletcher Chase. Psych! "In your face Fletch, in your face!" The fans chanted for the microphone to be turned off. Washington said he was going to bring us the best in fair and honest sports entertainment. Hail to the Chief played as Washington left the ring. If WWE gave a damn about managers, Washington has the potential to become the next Slick.

[Commercial Break]

4 – DREW MCINTYRE vs. TYLER REKS – FCW Title Match

Reks dominates McIntyre with a series of headlock takeovers. Reks with a crossbody off the second rope before returning to the headlock. Reks clotheslines McIntyre to the floor. From the outside, McIntyre trips Reks and then swings him into the guardrail.

[Commercial Break]

Both men are now back in the ring. Reks attempts a dropkick, but McIntyre swats him out of the way. McIntyre attacks the neck of Reks to set him up for the Scot Drop. McIntyre with a swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. McIntyre connects with a big boot as he continues to work over the neck of Reks. Out of nowhere, Reks nails the FCW Champion with a dropkick. Reks with an atomic drop, back elbow, and a back body drop. Reks hits his High Tide elbow drop for a nearfall. Reks climbs to the top rope, but McIntyre crotches him. Both men struggle on the top rope. McIntyre with a sit-down hip toss off the top. McIntyre manages to crawl over for a nearfall. Reks comes back with a powerslam for a dramatic nearfall. Reks starts to climb the ropes, but McIntyre runs up from behind and powerbombs him for another nearfall. McIntyre whips Reks to the corner and charges him. Reks puts the boots up and then hits a moonsault off the second rope. McIntyre escapes a Burning Hammer attempt by Reks. Reks escapes a Scot Drop attempt by McIntyre. McIntyre accidentally hits the ref with a big boot. Reks has a visual pinfall, but nobody is there to count. Reks checks on the referee allowing McIntyre to recover and give Reks the Scot Drop. Reks kicks out at two. Reks with a small package, but McIntyre slips out. Moments later, Reks executes the Burning Hammer for the win. The fans go berserk.

WINNER: Tyler Reks in 14:30 of what aired to capture the FCW Title. Started out slow with multiple headlock spots, but peaked with a frenzied finish. Not at the level of McIntyre vs. Ortiz from a couple weeks ago.

-After the match, former FCW Champion Joe Hennig made his way to the ring. Hennig embraced Reks and hoisted his hand in victory.
