Very good follow-up on Summerslam with Christian and William Regal getting their singles match two days after their false start at the PPV. Regal's quick-bursts of intensity stretched out over 15 minutes set up an awesome comeback from Christian near the end of the match that really captured Christian's superstar babyface persona. I can do without Christian's "Bart Simpson babyface" personality insulting the heel the mic and slapping Jackson for no reason, but that fiery comeback stood out in my mind. Christian vs. Regal III, presumably at Breaking Point in a submissions match, should be grand. As long as it goes more than 7.82 seconds.
I love the old-school Goldust vs. Sheamus feud. Goldust is on fire right now in the ring. Thank goodness no Abraham Washington this week to bring down that feud, which is an example of how to book a mid-card program with some juice behind it. The pre-match video package was one of WWE's best video packages for a mid-card feud in a while. The face-to-face at the end following some snazzy new graphics really sold this feud, then both men carried the feud forward with an intense match to keep the audience intrigued with the double count-out. Well done.
I even have to give props to Paul Burchill this week. A serious upgrade in the wardrobe and promo department. ... Down-side of the show was the muddled Tales of Shelton Benjamin, Zack Ryder's continued de-push, and having no information on Tyler Reks. Make a decision on Shelton's character, please. Meanwhile, the audience doesn't know why they're supposed to cheer Reks. What makes him a babyface? Yoshi seems genuinely excited to wrestle for the audience. He wants the cheers. Reks, we just don't know what his character wants other than to ride a wave.

Other than one small glaring match, this was a very solid show. The way that the Christian/Regal feud is being allowed to continue is a wise decision. No one wanted to see an eight second match at SummerSlam between these two. The fact that Regal didn't necessarily get a clean win in his match with Christian also makes you want to see the match again, smart booking.
The Sheamus/Goldust feud continues to be captivating. The double count out ensures that it will continue also. I don't think that we will ever see an ECW mid-card match on a PPV, which is a shame because I think these two could have a good one. ECW has to be given a lot of praise though as they at least focus on their mid-card talent in the one hour of TV that they are given each week (excluding Superstars I suppose). That's a lot more than anyone can say for Raw these days (which is an ongoing theme).
Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder vs. Yoshi Tatsu and Tyler Reks just didn't seem to come off too well. Benjamin and Ryder are on a collision course and I think they'll have a great feud. However, on this edition of ECW, it just didn't click for some reason. Sticking with the ECW mid-card, Paul Burchill had a nice little interview backstage to promote his Superstars match with The Hurricane. ECW right now is exploding with pretty good mid-card feuds. When will Raw take notice and do the same? I wonder if ECW had two hours of TV per week, would their show be as interesting? It's actually something that I hope we never have to find out because they continue to put on solid programming with only 1 hour per week. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to say that about ECW again after the 15 wrestler trade back in late June, but ECW has rebounded very nicely.

It feels great to give an installment of ECW an eight. And no, it's not just because of the welcome lack of the Abraham Washington Show, though that definitely contributed. The show has mastered the art of putting as much into their alloted time as they can without overstepping the fine line of overbooking (Impact comes to mind here). Goldust and Sheamus continue to move their feud along well, leaving the audience engaged for another week. Yoshi Tatsu, Zach Ryder and Shelton Benjamin all looked good in the tag team match, and the only thing that keeps Tyler Reks out of that equation is his total lack of any kind of character development.
As far as the main event is concerned, Christian and Regal put on an excellent match to push the Breaking Point rematch. I like this faction of Regal's, mostly because Kozlov and Jackson are both still not at the point of carrying their own main-event matches. Putting them with a mic worker on Regal's level can only lead to them improving all-around. I don't like Christian being floored at the end of the show two weeks in a row, though; that's not how you protect a champion, even if WWE doesn't give a damn about the brand as a whole.

First of all, I was a little more down on the Regal vs. Christian match than most people. It was fine, but it was a bit below my expectations. The fact that they haven't done anything to make Regal seem like a credible challenger is also a weakness of this feud. He had help in the tag match on the go-home show, lost in eight seconds at Summerslam, and needed help yet again to beat Christian here. And Regal has not been treated as a big deal (I remember his losses to Yoshi Tatsu last month), so he could really use some help in that area.
The mid-show tag match that teamed Shelton and Ryder together was odd, as was the presumed face Shelton attacking Ryder after the match. Tatsu is OK, but Reks continues to do nothing for me in or out of the ring. Probably a smart result to give those two a win here though. I was surprised they went with yet another Goldust vs. Sheamus match. The feud is good, but what is the payoff match going to be? We've seen them one-on-one so much, it's wearing a bit thin.
