[Q1]
-As the Jim Ross Watch continues, his voice is still prominent in the general WWE show-opening vignette.
-After the Raw opening, Michael Cole introduced the show. He sat between Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker, so expect either more bickering among them as happened last night at Extreme Rules or else evidence that Vince McMahon thought they went overboard. Striker said he was drafted once and it changes everything about your career.
-Miz and Big Show walked out. Miz cut a promo mocking the Hart Dynasty for being trained by an old man. He bragged about beating two teams last night. He goaded Bret Hart. Hart finally walked out and said: "I am a man of my word. I do declare that ShowMiz is the greatest tag team of all-time. I also declare that the Mountie was the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. And I also declare that David Arquette was the greatest World Champion of all time." Lawler chimed in, "That was a disgrace." Bret said he can say anything he wants, such as, "Miz is a horse-faced idiot. That might be as close to the truth as you can get. I can say anything I want." He said talk is cheap, though, and it's all about the results. He said ShowMiz will have to declare the Hart Dynasty the new Unified Tag Champions of the World.
1 -- SHOWMIZ (Miz & Big Show) vs. THE HART DYNASTY (David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd w/Natalya & Bret Hart) - Unified Tag Team Title Match
DHS hit a delayed vertical suplex on Miz. They cut to a break at 2:00. [c] They showed Bret watching at ringside as they returned from the break. When Cole said Show outweighs Tyson by 300 pounds, Striker said, "He outweights him by Kane, basically." Good line.
[Q2]
Miz tagged in with Tyson down. He showboated. Striker said, "How can you not enjoy the Miz." DHS got the hot tag and went into the Rob Terry offense of clothesline, clothesline, clothesline. Miz ducked another clotheslined, but ended up getting powerslammed for a two count. Miz went for a pin and put his feet on the ropes for leverage. Bret shoved his feet down. Miz turned to complain. Big Show went after Bret. Tyson leaped off the ring apron onto Show. DHS schoolboyed Miz for a believable near fall. DHS blocked a Skull Crushing Finale. The Dynasty followed up with the Hart Attack. Tyson then applied the Sharpshooter. Miz screamed in pain and tapped out a few seconds later. Striker called it a travesty of justice that Bret got involved. Bret celebrated with the Dynasty in the ring.
WINNER: The Hart Dynasty in 10:00 to capture the Unified Tag Team Titles.
STAR RATING: *1/4 [c]
-They showed Cole, Lawler, and Striker at ringside talking about John Cena humiliating Batista at the end of their match last week. Then they threw to a clip of Big Show punching Miz during the KO, frustrated with Miz. The slo-mo shot looked like Show really connected hard to the side of Miz's head. The announcers then threw to a video package on the Sheamus-Triple H happenings at Extreme Rules. Striker said it's not known yet how long Triple H will be out of action. Lawler said nerve damage was suffered and "it's not looking good right now."
[Q3]
-Josh Matthews interviewed Jack Swagger backstage. He said he was groomed to be World Champion. He bragged about a 4.0 GPA in finance. He said if he worked on Wall Street, the country wouldn't be falling into such great debt. Edge walked in and said he's next in line for a title shot. Edge said his GPA may be 4.0, but that's how many days he has left before he takes the title from him, unless he gets drafted to Raw.
-Michelle McCool, Layla, and Vickie Guerrero walked out. Lawler said a draft pick would be at stake in a Raw vs. Smackdown tag team Divas match next. [c]
2 -- MICHELLE MCCOOL & LAYLA (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. EVE TORRES & MARYSE - Draft Pick At Stake
Striker explained that after the match, the winning brand will receive a wrestler via random draw as the draft begins. Cole plugged the supplemental draft on Wednesday at noon. (We'll have live coverage of that right here at PWTorch.com, which is also a free iPhone App and is customized for virtually all smart phones; just log onto PWTorch.com on your phone's browser for a phone-friendly interface.) Lawler made fun of Vickie Guerrero's "mom jeans." He said, "If she went to the beach in those jeans, the tide wouldn't come in." Maryse wasn't even trying to get along with Eve. Michelle blind-sided Maryse with a boot as Maryse was arguing with Eve.
WINNER: Layla & McCool from Smackdown in 5:00.
STAR RATING: 3/4*
-DRAFT PICK #1: Kelly Kelly goes to Smackdown. Striker was very, very happy about that. Kelly walked onto the stage and waved at everyone.
[Q4] [c]
2 -- EVAN BOURNE vs. C.M. PUNK - Draft Pick At Stake
Bourne has the best actual ring entrance in the biz. He literally enters the ring by leaping into the air and sliding in feet-first. That would have been the most athletic thing seen on all of Extreme Rules last night other than maybe something Rey Mysterio did. It was a good show, but full of lumbering brawling by bigger men. The announcers talked about a mystery man helping from under the ring. Cole said the SES lifestyle is fine, but you don't have to shove it down everybody's throat. Lawler said unlike in the NFL where the more you lose the better your draft, in WWE you benefit from winning. That does prompt the question of how it helps Punk to have Smackdown gain a wrestler who may hinder his chances at winning a titles. When Bourne climbed to the top rope, the mystery man (presumably the former Joey Mercury) knocked him off the top rope as Serena distracted the referee. Punk then finished Bourne with the Go To Sleep.
WINNER: Punk in 4:00.
STAR RATING: *1/2 -- Bourne was a breath of fresh air with his agility and speed and grace.
-Draft Pick #2: The Big Show goes to Smackdown. [c]
-Smackdown G.M. Teddy Long greeted Show backstage. He said he can't wait to have him on Smackdown. He offered a handshake. Show wouldn't give it to him. He just stared him down. Show put his arm around Long and smiled and said he's doing good. It appears he was just messing with Long. Long then danced and sang, "I got myself a winner! I got myself a winner!"
