ECW HITS

WrestleMania 14 Video: A few weeks ago, in complaining about the redundant nature of the WrestleMania highlight videos, I suggested that WWE would be better off showing three different WM videos each week, one on Raw, one on ECW, and one on Smackdown. That would be better than showing the same two videos three times a week. On Raw, WWE showed a video on WrestleMania 9 (the horror!). That was it. Then on ECW, they showed a new and unique video on WrestleMania 14 (much better). I like to think that someone from WWE was reading my Hits & Misses and thought I had a good idea. It was refreshing to see a new video on ECW and hopefully there will be a new one on Smackdown too. The fact that this is the only Hit doesn't mean that this was a bad show (notice, only one Miss too). It is just that most of the content on the show was decent. Most of it wasn't good enough to get a Hit, but not bad enough to get a Miss. It was basically a fine way to kill an hour watching tv, but nothing more.

ECW MISSES

Swagger Pinned Again: Christian & Finlay vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger was a decent main event tag match. It went 14 minutes and did feature some nice wrestling action. However, it also featured some rather lackluster action too. The two on one beating of Finlay really started to drag. Things picked up very nicely after the hot tag to Christian. It is fun to see him wrestling again. It was interesting to see him do a flying headbutt from the top rope. Have we seen anyone do that since Chris Benoit? I assume he isn't doing the frog splash as he had been in TNA because of Eddie Guerrero (or Chavo?). Getting back to the point, the match was much better, but once again, Hornswoggle's interference took away from the quality. He is becoming a detriment to Finlay's matches. Those are some of the reasons that despite the positives in the match, I can't give it a Hit. But, what I really want to talk about is the fact that Jack Swagger was pinned again. He has now been pinned in three of his last four tv matches, once to Finlay, once to Christian, and now in the tag match. I don't want to see him become a Champion who only wins in Title matches. It also seems odd to go to a Title match between Swagger and Christian as soon as next week. I can only assume there will be some type of interference, leading to a non finish. That would give Christian someone to feud with for awhile (possibly Finlay, which has sort of been set up but not really. Maybe Tomko? Probably not) allowing him to ultimately get his next Title shot at WrestleMania.
