IMPACT HITS

Team 3D - Beer Money: The best angle that TNA has going for it right now is the build up for the Tag Team Title(s) match, Team 3D vs. Beer Money. This was the third week in a row with a nice Rough Cut on Team 3D. After the interesting sit down interview last week, we got some good follow up with Beer Money doing guest commentary during Team 3D's match against the Main Event Mafia security (who really shouldn't be wrestling at all). They were good in their commentary. It was interesting after the match when they came in and saved Team 3D from the beat down. Are they actually respecting their opponents, or are they playing mind games? It is an intriguing storyline. It is good for the PPV as fans should want to see the match and see what Beer Money's angle is.

No More Governor: I have complained so much about the Governor character that I have to give a Hit to the fact that the character is no more. TNA is at least giving a reason why she was playing the role and some background of how she got involved in the joke on the Beautiful People. I wasn't thrilled with the crazy character that Daffney is playing and the whole Dr. Stevie thing is getting ridiculously stupid. Does Daffney have a friend who can tell her that he isn't a real doctor? I know Abyss doesn't really have any friends but at least Lauren should warn him. But as I said, it is good to see her move on to a new character.

IMPACT MISSES

Dissension: If you had to pick one word to describe TNA, it would be "dissension". TNA loves dissension, between the wrestlers, the teammates, the announcers, and the various authority figures. All teams have to have tension. They've been focusing on the Main Event Mafia tension with Sting vs. Kurt Angle. They teased putting that aside, but no it is still there, along with tension between Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley, and Foley and Sting. Plus, they are now teasing possible tension between Jarrett and the Frontline (even though it isn't called that any more) with him accidentally costing Styles his match. They even have to have tension between Abyss and his "therapist" Dr. Stevie and between The Beautiful People and Maddison Rayne for letting Taylor Wilde get away (though they eventually caught her, when she first got away Velvet Sky and Angelina Love screamed at Rayne, because they are just forming a new team so of course they have to have tension already).

Jenna = Stupid: There are things that WWE does well that TNA would be smart to learn from. But, TNA seems to only do the things that WWE does poorly. This is a classic WWE move where something happens on screen that somebody else has no idea about. Apparently Jenna wasn't watching a monitor to hear what Kurt Angle said about her when he called her a bitch. This is a bit of a preemptive Miss, in that it is possible that next week we will find out that someone close to Jenna, a friend or relative, was watching Impact (though you couldn't blame them for not watching) and warned her not to trust Kevin Nash, that he is only using her. But, I am guessing that next week the angle will continue on and she will be clueless to what happened. As I said, WWE does this all the time and it is ridiculous. There is a fundamental lack of logic in this type of storytelling.

Giving Away PPV Matches: I don't understand giving away PPV caliber matches, including a PPV caliber main event for free on Impact with no advanced hype. Steiner vs. Styles could have been on a PPV and at the very least should have been announced a week ahead of time, and the show should have been built around the match with its stipulation for Lockdown. Obviously, as it turns out Samoa Joe vs. Sting was very short and didn't amount to much, so TNA didn't give away too much for free there, but having Joe dominate the short match (more later) kills off the effectiveness of trying to sell the match at a PPV in the future.

Joe Destroys Sting/Booker, Kidnaps Sharmell: If Samoa Joe was able to easily destroy Sting and Booker T in about 3 minutes with no help from anyone, a few weeks after cutting up Scott Steiner, then the Main Event Mafia seems to be finished. Having the World Champion take that much of a beating is a bad idea. Sting looked too weak. Maybe they feel that they have to make him look weak in order for the fans to take Foley as a serious challenger for the Title at Lockdown. Then, Joe kidnapped Sharmell. Joe continues his string of heel behavior. Sharmell really didn't do anything to him. She tried to protect her husband who was already knocked out from getting seriously injured. What a bitch! She deserves to be kidnapped. Do they want us to cheer for him? I don't see what he is doing that is admirable in the least.
