SUPERSTARS HITS

Cutting Edge: This is the first time that Superstars has featured a long talking segment like this, and it worked well. I would rather see more matches and less talking, but this was a chance to advance a storyline in a meaningful way, and to feature the World Champion Edge and his top challenger Jeff Hardy, so it worked. It is a good idea to feature top stars like Edge and Hardy on the show, and you can't give away matches with guys at that level every week. This made a lot of sense. Edge was good as usual on the mic. It was interesting how he bridged his comments towards John Cena in the run up to their Backlash match with his comments to Hardy in the run up to their Judgment Day match. They really do have a long history. Hardy was a bit better than usual for his part on the mic. The physicality at the end was nice too.

Jericho vs. Morrison: I was expecting WWE to develop this into a feud after the backstage altercation on Smackdown between Chris Jericho and John Morrison. Instead, they had an unadvertised match on Superstars. That doesn't make much sense to me. If you are going to have the match, at least announce it on Raw and ECW first. But, the match itself was good. It went 11 minutes and featured some very good wrestling action. It went back and forth and built well to the end. The near falls and action of the last few minutes were particularly strong. The distraction from Shelton Benjamin was ok. It made sense to not have a clean victory in this case, but after Morrison easily defeated Benjamin last week, it is hard to see him as a threat. This goes more into my Miss from last week for that match. If that had been a long competitive match, then this would be a nice second step in their feud. But, it wasn't. If WWE is sticking with Morrison vs. Benjamin, and presumably CM Punk vs. Umaga, then who does Jericho feud with at this point? Rey Mysterio? Undertaker?

SUPERSTARS MISSES

Santina & Kelly vs. Phoenix & Mendez: There were a few nice moments of wrestling and it was good to see Kelly Kelly getting a chance to wrestle on tv for a change. But, this was clearly more about the comedy than about the wrestling. In general, I would be fine with that, especially on a show that had a good serious verbal confrontation and a good main event. However, the comedy wasn't funny. Santina Marella has been funny at times, but I haven't been as amused for the most part as many others seem to be. I didn't laugh much during this comedy match. So, this Miss isn't for the attempt at humor, but for the execution.
