Thank you for joining me as we put Smackdown "Under The Microscope." This is not a complete recap of the show. Instead, this is a closer look at the broadcast.

You gotta have heart

Jim Ross saluted the courage of the Intercontinental Champion by insisting that "you can't measure this man's heart." Obviously he was referring to Rey Mysterio's fortitude and bravery, but if you are more literal and you would like to measure someone's heart, the first thing you should do is probably introduce yourself. You will be getting very close to this person rather quickly.

After you open them up, you will see that the left ventricle is the largest chamber in the heart. According to the Texas Heart Institute, the average heart will weigh between 7-15 ounces and be roughly five inches in length. If you are not able to get that friendly with someone to the point that they are willing to allow you to perform surgery on them, you can estimate that a person's heart is approximately the size of a fist.

Celebration

Todd Grisham reminded us about Mysterio's heritage and the recent holiday by insisting that Rey's presence capped off a great week when we celebrate Cinco de Mayo. The fifth of May is recognized is not an official holiday in the U.S. and some may be surprised to learn that it's not a federal holiday in Mexico. Another misconception is that it recognizes Mexico's Independence Day. Actually, Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Independence Day is September 16.

Artists as varied as Liz Phair, Herb Alpert, and War have recorded songs with the title of "Cinco de Mayo." War also had a hit with the tune "Spill The Wine," even though tequila is more closely associated with Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

Keep your potatoes to yourself

The sign of the night belongs to the person with a certain state on their mind. "Idaho? No, Udaho."

Silly? Yes. Did it make me laugh? Yes. Do I think it should be listed on their license plates? Yes.

Seven years of college down the drain

The announcers clearly had thoughts of their days after high school running through their heads during the show as they reflected on the college exploits of several superstars. They mentioned that R-Truth had been offered scholarships in football and track and field, Michelle McCool was a three-sport athlete at Florida State, and that Charlie Haas was a two-time All-American at Seton Hall.

Ron Killings actually played high school football with Ray Durham, who made his name in Major League Baseball as a second baseman with the White Sox, Giants, and other teams. Killings declined the scholarships to focus on a music career.

Haas graduated with a degree in economics and business from Seton Hall. Among the other former Pirates are Max Weinberg, the drummer for Bruce Springsteen's "E Street Band" and the "Max Weinberg 7" of Conan O'Brien fame, Dick Vitale, and actor Dule Hill, who played Charlie on "The West Wing." Although, he didn't graduate, Tony Soprano apparently took a class or two at Seton Hall. Tony told his daughter, Meadow, that he attended for a semester-and-a-half but realized that college wasn't for him.

Terrible

I give full credit to Ricky Ortiz for his persistence with his towel, even in the face of uncaring fans and especially in the heart of Terrible Towel country. With Smackdown coming from Pittsburgh, waving any other towel could violate local and state regulations. Pittsburgh's version was created in 1975 by their late announcer Myron Cope and proceeds from the sale of the towels have raised more than $2.5 million dollars for a local Pittsburgh charity.

The towel first made an appearance before a Steelers playoff game in 1975 and since then has been seen at various sporting events and fans have even taken the towel on vacation and sent photographs back to the team. Destinations have included the Great Wall of China, Mt. Everest, and the 2008 Olympics.

After Cope's death in 2008, Seth Myers waved a Terrible Towel in his honor on Saturday Night Live.

Continuing the college theme, Ortiz attended Glendale Community College and the University of Tulsa. He had 177 tackles as a linebacker for The Golden Hurricane. Seth Myers attended Northwestern and Myron Cope went to the University of Pittsburgh.

Just a reminder

The quote of the night which caught my attention came from an unlikely source. When Dolph Ziggler was preparing everyone for his open challenge, he insisted that "you will never forget the name...Dolph Ziggler." The reason I was intrigued by his statement was that it seemed eerily reminiscent of the classic line from a fellow blond with a bit more makeup. "You will never forget the name...Goldust" was usually accompanied by a fair share of heavy breathing and certain hand gestures, but the message was quite similar.

Other things you should remember:
-- The Alamo
-- My name. Fame! (They're gonna live forever, so they'll be around to remind you if you forget)
-- The Titans
-- This. A kiss is still a kiss. (Apparently, you MUST remember this one)
-- November (ECW fans)
-- Affair (Cary Grant Fans)
-- Affairs in November (Cary Grant in ECW fans)

Finally

"Cryme Tyme Hand Slam Jammy-Jam Challenge."

Someone got paid to come up with that name. I wasted Career Day at school.
