SUPERSTARS HITS

Christian vs. Dreamer: I'm disappointed that the first Title match on Superstars was the opening match instead of the main event, but I can understand it given the participants and the fact that CM Punk would be facing Chris Jericho. Also, the no contest finish brought the quality of this match down a bit, but not too much considering it was predictable and thus not disappointing. The match itself was good while it lasted. Tommy Dreamer isn't going to have great matches, but with a skilled opponent like Christian, he can have good ones, which this was. It went back and forth nicely. There were some good near falls as Dreamer came within a heart beat of becoming the ECW Champion on a few occasions. As I predicted in my ECW Hits & Misses, a triple threat match at Extreme Rules is inevitable. I also liked the tension between Christian and Dreamer afterwards over the Title belt. It made the Title feel important.

Swagger Video: WWE has had one of these videos highlighting a different Superstar on Superstars each week. I haven't mentioned them before, as they usually are random and don't add much to the show, but at the same time they are short, well produced, and don't take away anything from the show. In this case though, it was nice to see the video on a wrestler who was just involved in the show, as opposed to the random nature of the videos in previous weeks.

Jericho Interview: Chris Jericho once again gave a good performance on the mic. It was interesting to hear him dismiss Josh Mathews' question about Rey Mysterio to focus on his opponent, CM Punk. It was short, but it gave some context to an otherwise fairly random match. It got over Jericho's state of mind and how he feels about Punk. It is a good example of how interview time can be used effectively without having a wrestler go on and on. WWE should do more of these short interviews with wrestlers setting up their upcoming matches.

Kingston vs. Regal: This was a good 5 minute match. William Regal and Kofi Kingston have very different styles. When styles clash like that, the results can be a disaster, but they worked well together here. Regal got a chance to show off some of his offense and his bad attitude, while Kingston got to show off his high energy high flying offense. It was interesting how Regal distracted himself by playing to the fans leading to his loss. I am a fan of both of these guys and would love to see them each get a push. However, I think Regal could have used the win more, especially if he is going to feud for the US Title and work with Vickie Guerrero.

Jericho vs. Punk: This was a great match, which doesn't surprise me at all. It went 14 minutes and was exciting from start to finish. Chris Jericho and CM Punk worked hard and put on a match with plenty of great wrestling action, counters and near falls. They did a good job of teasing both the Go To Sleep and the Walls of Jericho. There were some very nice sequences throughout the match. I particularly liked the series of kicks from Punk, which Jericho countered with an enziguri. The ending sequence was very strong as Punk caught Jericho in an electric chair position, attempted to transfer it into the GTS, only to have Jericho counter into a Walls of Jericho attempt, only to have Punk counter into the inside cradle for the win. It was nice to see Jericho get his heat back right away with the Code Breaker after the match.

SUPERSTARS MISSES

WWE vs. Denver Nuggets: This was an enjoyable show. All the matches were good, and two of them went 12+ minutes. There wasn't a Raw Rebound to complain about. Really, there was nothing to complain about, except for the promotion of next week's Raw. I side with WWE in their conflict with the Denver Nuggets. WWE should have gotten to run Raw from Denver on Monday. Vince McMahon should be happy about the huge amount of free publicity that WWE is getting from this debacle. He had a chance to endear himself to the Colorado fans while also sticking it to the Nuggets' owner. But, he can't help being an ass. From a business stand point, I don't know how the move to LA will effect the company. Will they make more money, or will the fans in LA stay home to watch the Lakers on tv? Will they make more money for the Tuesday taping than they would have in Colorado Springs (if I'm a fan with Smackdown tickets, I'd be pissed, as WWE could have found an alternative to leaving the state entirely)? But, this Miss isn't for moving the show. This Miss is for the lame Lakers vs. Nuggets five on five tag announced for Raw next week. That is stupid. What is dumber is having McMahon on Raw to challenge the Nuggets' owner. McMahon has been off tv lately, as are the rest of his family, selling the effects of beatings from Randy Orton. Vince is healthy, but if he is going to be on Raw, shouldn't he be trying to destroy Orton for destroying his family? Appearing on Raw to capitalize on this publicity is short sighted, when an appearance down the line after an absence can pop a rating. This is McMahon being McMahon and it makes for bad tv. I'm sure I'll have more to say next week, but I had to get that off my chest after seeing those announcements.
