SUPERSTARS HITS

Ortiz vs. Truth: I have been saying for awhile that a heel Ricky Ortiz (who still thinks he is a babyface, trying to get his fans to "rally up") has character potential. However, we hadn't seen much to say he had a lot of potential in the ring. However, he looked good in this match. At 14 minutes, it has to be his longest WWE tv match yet. He responded well to being given this chance to show what he can do in a longer match. R-Truth was good too. Sometimes, matches like this can start to drag as the heel dominates a long stretch. They drag even more in a match that goes 14 minutes as oppose to 8 or 9. These two deserve credit for shaking things up a bit here and there to keep things interesting. Truth had about three aborted comebacks during the match. He kept trying to comeback, only to have Ortiz cut him off and continue to dominate. Those were some nice sequences. I wouldn't have minded one or two more to break things up even more. The ending was a bit off leading to the Lie Detector, but it was still a good match.

Ryder vs. Reks: This was a better showing than last week for Tyler Reks. I was disappointed that his match with Zack Ryder was so short and one sided in his debut. This would have been a better debut match for him, as he had a chance to show off more of his in ring ability here than last week. But, this worked well as a second effort. It makes sense that a rookie would have trouble in his first match, and improve in his second. He still lost, so he still has to improve. This was a good 12 minute match. I felt that Ryder's ECW debut with this character was a bad first impression. Luckily, Ryder has been making much better impressions since then. He has looked good in the ring, and seems to be embracing his character.

SUPERSTARS MISSES

Hornswoggle vs. Guerrero: Last week, Superstars featured a good comedy match, Santino Marella vs. The Brian Kendrick. This week, Superstars featured a bad comedy match, Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero. The scene backstage with Vince McMahon was silly, though I have to admit to laughing when Hornswoggle admitted to biting Guerrero. But, the match itself just didn't work. I'm not saying that there weren't a few amusing moments like when Guerrero distracted the ref with the turnbuckle pad, only to stand up and stomp on Hornswoggle, but there weren't enough amusing moments to save this segment. Guerrero isn't in a position to be protected from losing to Hornswoggle, but he could be. He could be used better than this. Also, it is too unbelievable that Hornswoggle would be able to do some of those moves to Chavo. With two good two-segment matches, it didn't make much sense to have this as the main event either.
