RAW HITS
Seth Green: So far, the guest host experiment is going well. I enjoyed Seth Green's work on Raw throughout the show. It started with a good opening segment, where he was introduced by Triple H. I am a "Robot Chicken" fan, so I didn't mind the clip at all. I wouldn't want to see a non-wrestler every week in this position, especially with all the cheap plugs, but it worked this week. Green was good in his role. I loved some of the facial reactions various wrestlers gave to him throughout the night, like Triple H after he booked the six man tag main event. I loved his interaction with Chris Jericho. They both played their parts well. We also got to hear a line that falls into the category of "lines you never thought you would hear on Monday Night Raw" when Randy Orton said to his Legacy cronies, "whatever you do, don't touch Seth Green." I am not a fan of the comedy routines involving either Triple H or John Cena. However, the brief scene in the back as they sort of tried to instill some confidence into Green was funny. I particularly enjoyed the start of the scene, with Santino Marella playing with his action figures.
Jericho - Henry: I enjoyed this a lot other than two complaints. Jericho once again gave a great promo. It was interesting to hear him verbally bash Edge. There is a built in huge feud when Edge returns. My first complaint is that the contract that Jericho had where he could pick a new partner in case Edge got injured was a bit too convenient. Perhaps he could have just said he went to Vince McMahon and got an executive order saying he could pick his partner. Other than that, it was a good segment that got better with the appearance by Mark Henry. Jericho's expression was great as he looked pleased and confident, thinking that Henry was there to become his partner, only to change to worry as Henry said he was there to be Jericho's opponent. It was similar to his Raw debut when he tricked Orton into thinking he was going to let him win. I loved when he beat up Jericho and ripped the shirt off without ripping the tie off. That was impressive. My second complaint is that Seth Green should have been on the screen ordering the match. It was ok that the announcers said it was official, but why would Jericho go ahead with it? There were two minor things that would have made this good segment even better.
Legacy vs. Triple H, Cena, Green: WWE did a very good job in booking the main event. The crowd was hot for all the action (really a good crowd all night long). I can't imagine doing a better job with Seth Green in the ring than they did. They had him land a big punch on Cody Rhodes, but Rhodes wasn't hurt by it as he was being held by Cena at the time, and quickly recovered. Green was good in trying to pin Rhodes, only to quickly tag back out to Cena. There wasn't a lot of wrestling in the match, but what occurred was good. Legacy played up their group advantage well. I like how Orton hit Triple H with a surprise RKO, setting up a would be pin if Green hadn't interfered. Orton was great in stalking Green and setting him up for the punt. The end with some tension between Cena and the Game was good too.
RAW MISSES
Summer Swimsuit Spectacular: I failed to write down the exact name of this match, so I'm not sure if I got it right or not. I don't really care. This is the PG version of the old Divas water fights with the water balloons, super soakers, and buckets of water. This was a real match, but with the Divas in swimsuits. I prefer this to the other, as you get the sexy women on the screen, but also feature their wrestling ability. Unfortunately, in this particular instance, the wrestling quality wasn't there. Gail Kim and Mickie James are very good wrestlers. Maryse and Kelly Kelly have improved and are on their way. Alicia Fox has shown some skill. I don't think Rosa Mendes belongs in a WWE ring yet. But, that is a good amount of skill in this match. However, it didn't translate to quality in the ring. Even James was sloppy in this one. These women are capable of more while still looking sexy.
MVP vs. Swagger: The 8 minutes of wrestling action (or the 5 that we saw minus the commercial) in this match between Montel Vontavious Porter and Jack Swagger was good. However, I spent most of the match questioning why it was happening. Doesn't WWE know how to do a slow burn storyline anymore? After the great start to what could be a great feud in the VIP Lounge last week, why go to this match right away? Why not build up to it for a few weeks? Why not build the anticipation to finally see MVP vs. Swagger? Have the match on Raw after announcing it the week before. Then, have something happen after a similarly good match. Perhaps the two brawl around ringside and get counted out. Whatever. Then have the feud continue and build to a rematch at Summerslam. Tease the fans and make them want to pay to see them wrestle. In addition to my questioning having the match this week, I question having Swagger win clean. How does that set up anything? It makes Swagger look strong and that is good, but that didn't have to happen right away. He didn't cheat. He defeated MVP, and I don't see where you go from there.
Hornswoggle vs. Guerrero: I complained about their match from Superstars in great detail then. I won't say much here other than that this isn't funny, it isn't entertaining, and it is taking someone who could be more useful on the Raw roster in Chavo Guerrero and making him out to be the biggest joke in WWE history.
Bourne's Neck: That looked bad. I could give Kofi Kingston a Hit for his good work as a guest commentator during Evan Bourne vs. Big Show. I could give the match itself a Miss for burying the promising and exciting Bourne by having him totally squashed by Big Show. However, the one thing that really stood out from this match was the beating Evan Bourne's neck took. He looked like he landed funny on his neck when he did the missile drop kick from the top rope. If that wasn't bad enough, his neck looked in horrible shape after the spear from Show. I know it is supposed to look like it hurts, but when it looks like it might be a serious neck injury, the fun of the match goes away. I was more worried than anything, so it gets a Miss.
