SUPERSTARS HITS

Burchill & Regal vs. Reks & Tatsu: This was far from a great tag team match. It was only solid, but I am still giving it a Hit. The reason for the Hit is that WWE is trying to establish so many new faces on ECW, and this was a good step for two of them. It is hard to get excited about a mini-feud between perennial loser Paul Burchill and new comer Tyler Reks. So, team Burchill up with long time veteran William Regal, and Reks up with another new comer, but one who has already gotten over with the crowd, in Yoshi Tatsu. It was good booking. The fans are behind Tatsu and against Regal, so they got behind Reks and were against Burchill. It was also nice to see Burchill on the winning end of a match for once.

Knox vs. Mysterio: Last year during this feud, Mike Knox got to show a glimpse of what he could do if given more mic time. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't gotten any more sense then. He and Rey Mysterio put on a good 14 minute match. Knox is big and strong, but he can move around some in the ring. Mysterio of course did what he needed to do to really create the movement in the match and keep things from dragging. He had some spurts of energy in various come back attempts. One thing I want to point out specifically was how he dragged himself into the ring on a 10 count. He laid still for a few counts, then slowly started to move and slowly pulled himself into the ring at the last possible second. That was much more realistic, while still being dramatic, than what John Cena did a few weeks ago on Raw when he laid still for an 8 count then magically healed himself to hop into the ring at the last second. It is the difference between a great wrestler and a good one. Getting back to the match, I am still impressed by Knox's leaping cross body. Dolph Ziggler was ok on guest commentary. He did a good job of getting over how he was scouting Mysterio, but he didn't add much. The DQ finish made perfect sense. But, I would have liked to see Knox get angry at Ziggler for costing him the match, especially since they are booked against each other as part of a fatal four way #1 contenders match on Smackdown (which they did a good job of hyping throughout this match).

SUPERSTARS MISSES

The Masterpiece: Of all the wrestlers let go by WWE over the last few years, was Chris Masters really the one who should be brought back? Were there a lot of fans out there thinking, "whatever happened to that Masterpiece guy? I wish they'd bring him back?" Santino Marella is a comedy figure at this point. I don't mind seeing him be entertaining and then taking the loss. He was entertaining here, especially in his back summersaults early in the match. But, I just cringe when I see Masters. He was always just a sculpted body. He never had much skill in the ring. I don't see any difference now as to then. At some point he has to show more in order to justify being rehired.
