SMACKDOWN HITS
Morrison vs. Kidd: You can just about guarantee that every John Morrison match is going to be a Hit. It just happens that way every week. This was even better than his match against Tyson Kidd from last week's Superstars. Kidd is showing why he should break away from the Hart Dynasty at some point and become a singles star. I am all for tag team wrestling, and if I thought WWE would get behind a tag team division then I might feel different. However, I am far from sold on David Hart Smith and far from sold on WWE building a tag division, so hopefully Kidd will get to show more of the skills he showed here. When he uses a submission hold, it looks like it might actually hurt his opponent. He has passion and energy. This was a very good match. By the way, everyone is calling Morrison's backflip move a "standing moonsault" instead of a "standing shooting star press" which is what I think it should be called as Morrison executes the move while facing his opponent like a shooting star press, not with his back to his opponent like a moonsault. That's been bothering me and I wanted to get it out there.
Fatal Four Way: This was a fun 8 minute match between Dolph Ziggler, Finlay, Mike Knox and R-Truth to determine the #1 contender for Rey Mysterio's Intercontinental Championship. It had plenty of action and never slowed down. With four guys in the ring, you can have two resting while the other two are wrestling which works to keep things moving. My only complaint is that Ziggler was too predictable of a winner. WWE doesn't know how to stretch out programs any more. Have Ziggler lose, then cost the winner at SummerSlam since he still wants Mysterio. Have a mini feud between Ziggler and R-Truth leading to Ziggler beating Truth to earn a Title shot at the next PPV. Shake things up. However, I did enjoy the match.
JTG vs. Jericho: WWE is doing a very good job of building up Cryme Tyme as credible challengers for Chris Jericho and the Big Show. This match between Jericho and JTG went a long way in helping out as JTG not only held his own and had a good showing, he actually picked up the surprise victory. The match itself was short, but at 6 minutes wasn't too short. It had good wrestling action. Jericho is great in the ring, and JTG showed he can perform well also. This is a nice case where a good match fit in well with good PPV hype.
Hardy vs. Punk: I wasn't expecting a blow off match for this feud, so I wasn't disappointed in the length (just 11 minutes) for a World Title match. I wasn't expecting Matt Hardy to be named the special guest enforcer and I wasn't expecting the ending of the match either. That was some nice unpredictability that I was hoping for earlier in the night. The match itself was quite good while it lasted. Hardy and Punk worked hard and put on a good back and forth match. Matt played his part well in showing no reaction at all to what was happening in the ring. The match built nicely to the end starting when Punk accidentally kicked Matt instead of Jeff. It was interesting how Punk got a visual 3 count on Jeff before Matt stopped the count. I am curious to see where things to from here with these three. Punk was great by the way in how he reacted to the EMTs at ringside telling them to fix Jeff so he could break him again.
SMACKDOWN MISSES
Opening Segment: This is a minor Miss as the opening segment wasn't totally bad, but bad enough to just find itself in the Miss column. CM Punk's promo was ok. He delivered his lines well, but I'm still not a fan of him being a heel for telling the fans not to do drugs. There were a few really over the top moments, like when he said that one drink makes you an alcoholic and he is condescending, so those aspects of the character work. It was very predictable that something would happen to keep the main event from starting the show. That predicability partially leads to this Miss. The physicality was fine, but predictable. I wasn't thrilled with Vince McMahon's appearance either. It served as a reminder that Teddy Long is on probation, but since that hadn't been brought up in several weeks, it seemed like they had dropped the storyline. A little foresight to mention it every once in awhile would be good for when it comes up like in this instance. It is frustrating that WWE doesn't seem to write more than a week in advance.
Kane Kidnaps Singh: I just don't care about this feud at all and I really don't want to see Kane vs. The Great Khali at SummerSlam. Having Kane kidnap Runjin Singh who I don't like doesn't make me want to see the match. I didn't care what happened to him. None of what they've done has gotten me interested in this feud.
