SUPERSTARS HITS

Morrison vs. Smith: I have recently written about how Tyson Kidd should break out on his own as an up and coming superstar. In doing so, I wrote that I am far from sold on the talents of David Hart Smith. I am definitely more sold on his talents after this match with John Morrison, the best match of the week in WWE so far. It went 12 minutes and was easily the best Smith has looked in a WWE match, singles or tag team. Of course, it helped that he was in the ring with Morrison who has been great lately. They worked hard and put on a very well booked match that went back and forth. Neither wrestler had advantage for too long as they kept coming up with counters. Smith had a very solid performance, while Morrison showed his great athleticism and exciting moves that really kept the match moving. Like last week, I have to again point out that Morrison's move is a standing Shooting Star Press, not a standing Moonsault.

Goldust vs. Shaemus: I said in my ECW article that I missed the development in the feud between Goldust and Shaemus, so I was pleased that it was picked up on Superstars. If I was not alone among ECW viewers, then WWE should have announced this match on ECW (they could do much more to hype Superstars in general). Goldust and Shaemus didn't disappoint. They put on a good match, this one went twice as long as last week's, and was better. This was a bit more of a formulaic match, with Shaemus controlling the bulk of the match leading to the come back from Goldust, but they executed that formula very well, and the crowd was hot. They had time to throw in more counters and reversals as the match built towards the end. They had a nice sequence where Shaemus tried to sweep Goldust off the turnbuckle which is how he won last week, only to have Goldust avoid it and hit a cross body block, which Shaemus reversed into a pin attempt. I thought he would get the win and was pleasantly surprised when it continued. It was nice to see Goldust get the victory to keep the feud going. Goldust looked inspired. Shaemus continues to show his potential. His shocked look after losing was very well done.

James & Kingston vs. Mendes & Carlito: This was another good match, although shorter and not quite as good as the other two. This was obviously a tease for a future US Title match between Kofi Kingston and Carlito, and considering how they worked together in this mixed tag match, I wouldn't mind seeing a singles match between the two. I was worried about Rosa Mendes' involvement in the match as she can be very sloppy. However, her time in the ring was limited and she looked fine. I like how the babyface team twice took advantage of the rules of the match to not wait for a tag, first when Mickie James entered to take quick control on Mendes after she tagged in, and second when Kofi Kingston hit a huge springboard move onto Carlito (it seemed like he flew 2/3 of the way across the ring!). The match built well to the end, with Kingston showing his great leaping ability multiple times, setting up his miss of a leaping move in the corner, leading to Carlito hitting a sick backstabber from the turnbuckle.

SUPERSTARS MISSES

None: There was really very little to complain about this week. Sure, I'm not a fan of the Ask the Divas segment, but as I have said before it belongs on Superstars more than ECW. Sure, I'm not a fan of the Raw Rebound, but I was happy to see a video focusing on the more interesting part of Raw this week, the Randy Orton, John Cena, Jeri-Show angle instead of the DX recap video shown on ECW. Even with these videos and the Kane highlight video, there was still roughly 30 minutes of in ring action this week, which I won't complain about.
