SUPERSTARS HITS

Bourne & Primo vs. Guerrero & Carlito: This was a good tag match featuring plenty of high energy and high flying wrestling action. At 12 minutes it was a nice length. It was a bit formulaic, but you can say that about most WWE tag team matches. I wonder sometimes if the WWE higher ups watch Superstars. If they did, they would have seen Evan Bourne and Carlito put on a great match a few weeks ago and seen them with their partners Primo and Chavo Guerrero put on a good match this week. They would also see how over Bourne is with the audience and they might consider using him more than they do.

Kim vs. Burchill: I also enjoyed the Divas match between Gail Kim and Katie Lea Burchill. I am a broken record here, but if you want to see the best WWE Divas wrestling matches, you have to tune into Superstars. This wasn't a great match, but at 5 minutes was long for a Divas match. It was good while it lasted. Katie Lea has talent that needs to be better utilized. It is nice to see Kim in the Divas Title picture. In hindsight, I should have given Raw a Miss for their lackluster PPV hype. This is one of only two under card matches that have been announced for Elimination Chamber, but it wasn't even mentioned on Raw.

Mysterio vs. Knox: These two have had good matches in the past, and this one was no different. Rey Mysterio and Mike Knox got 14 minutes of ring time and they delivered well. The theme for this week's show seems to be underutilized talent, as I would include Knox in that list as well. He is a solid to good worker. He moves around well for someone his size. I like his understated promos. He has an interesting character that could/should be developed more than it has. He showed here that the can perform in longer matches. Mysterio was his usual great self as you would expect. The crowd is so behind him right now. I'm sure he won't win the Elimination Chamber or headline WrestleMania, but this would be the time to do it. He really deserves another World Title run in 2010 (one where he is treated better than the first).

SUPERSTARS MISSES

No Match Purposes: I enjoyed the wrestling on this show, but my only complaint is that there wasn't a real purpose to any of the matches. When I have made this observation in the past, I have gotten comments blasting me for saying that all matches have to have a back story which is not what I'm saying. I don't even care if most of the matches on Superstars are totally random. I just wish that one of the matches had more of a purpose than these did. There have been rematches, grudge matches, tournament matches, etc. on Superstars in the past. They could do a better job with having the matches feel more important, even with these three specific matches. The announcers never mentioned the Bourne vs. Carlito match from two weeks ago. Sure, they talked briefly about the Colon brothers history, but they can do a better job. They did a fine job talking about how Gail Kim and Rey Mysterio couldn't afford to get injured during their matches, but they didn't talk much about how important wins would be for momentum. They didn't talk about what a win for Burchill would mean over one of the tournament finalists. They didn't talk about what a win for Knox over one of the Elimination Chamber participants would mean to his career. If you are going to have three random matches like this for the entire show, at least make them seem more important in the moment.
