Instant Reaction - WWE Smackdown 2/21
By Benjamin Tucker, PWTorch TV specialist

Overall Score - 6.5

Smackdown tonight was a decent show that in the end was fairly inconsequential. There was a nice Punk-Bryan match (albeit the multiple starts and stops in the match), and a couple of feuds were furthered to a certain extent (mainly the Long vs. Laurinaitis feud, plus the opening talking segment with Miz, Bryan, and Sheamus). At the same time, there seemed to be a lot of stalling and filler segments. Not all of them were bad (Ziggler and Swagger tag match, Miz vs. Sheamus), but in the end, I didn't think they did much to actually advance the WrestleMania card.

Of course, several segments did end up falling flat. I still dislike the McIntyre storyline, and Santino's segment was... more Santino. I'm burned out on him, but I guess someone who isn't sick of him got a kick out of it. Otunga vs. Jackson was more of the same from Raw on Monday, and I still don't get what's happening with Mark Henry. Is he in trouble with management or something? His match didn't even end! I'm surprised that he's continually being booked to get knocked out so quickly, which is a shame given his abilities. Show's feud with Rhodes does have some promise, but at the same time, leaves me saddened that Rhodes vs. Goldust probably won't end up happening at WrestleMania after all.

The main event, as mentioned above, was probably the highlight of the show. It was hyped nicely, and, as much as I think I'm going to dislike this Long-Laurinaitis feud, the match did do a good job at generating more friction between the two general managers. It also continued to portray Bryan as a tough, yet still undeserving champion. Overall, it worked out pretty well.

Smackdown by no means blew me away tonight, but it was definitely decent. A lack of memorable or exciting moments brought the show down, but as a nice little diversion on the road to WrestleMania, it wasn't bad. Then again, as a live (SUPER) Smackdown, it didn't deliver, and it won't be remembered a couple of weeks from now.
