ECW Reax #1: "Nobody portrays the valiant but doomed hero better than Tommy Dreamer." Oct 3, 2007 - 10:35:12 AM
Bill Sartori of Windsor Locks, Conn. (2.0): Well, I guess it's now official. Vince REALLY hates the original ECW. Paul Heyman must have pissed him off big time. The "win" by Tommy Dreamer was a bit of a swerve, which would have pitted two faces against each other at No Mercy. But nooooooo. Can't have that. So here comes Estrada to foist that useless tub of lard, Big Daddy V on us. I don't order WWE PPVs and this is just another in a long line of reasons not to. However, Vince has got bigger problems than a no talent goof such as Viscera. His meal ticket, whether you like him or not, John Cena will be out for up to a year. The paper-thin Raw roster certainly can't afford that, so what will Vince do? I think that in the short term, Vince will swallow hard and put the title on Randy Orton and prays that Orton doesn't do anything monumentally stupid. I am also going to presume that Triple H will be the elevated to the no. 1 face on Raw and let him chase Orton for the title. However, Vince and his writers don't think logically, so...
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (3.0): Best: Tommy Dreamer wins The Elimination Chase Worst: Tommy Dreamer loses The Elimination Chase. Oh, how the opportunities fell by the wayside tonight. Miz finally gives a reason why Extreme Expose hangs with him, which he now uses as blackmail to keep Balls and Kelly apart. Now a match between them has an objective: Free Kelly. I can deal with this, as it looks like they are working toward a resolution of the storyline. Punk vs. Knox was a much better match series the first time around. I'm not watching the same Mike Knox I did before. But at least there was some detail given about their past feud. Vince really looked disappointed having to make the announcement about Cena's injury and the vacation of the WWE Title. Say what you want about WWE and its policies, the fed hasn't caught a real break since at least WrestleMania. With the exception of SummerSlam, every PPV before and since as 2007 wore on has had an element of "I give up" because of yet another element of surprise (injury, suspension, death, etc.) that warrants any amount of changes. I can understand a non-built suddenly put together WWE Title match as Cena's injury came last minute. It was a nice surprise that Dreamer defeated Burke for the Chase match (I, and about everyone else, expected Burke to win). And then came the crowd killer: Big Daddy V being added to the Chase and the new element for the ECW Title match. Why this? I could see Punk vs. V later on, by why ruin what had been a good angle (the Elimination Chase)? Is ECW being punished for the sheer fluky bad luck that Raw and Cena met? Hands had to be thrown up out of necessity for the WWE title match; Punk-V for the ECW title is the "I give up" match.
Eric Gall of Bridgeport, Conn. (6.0): Best Match: Tommy Dreamer. Worst Match: Nothing leaps to mind. Nobody portrays the valiant but doomed hero better than Tommy Dreamer. Tonight's show brought back some memories of the epic Dreamer-Raven feud as Tommy's victory over Burke surprised a lot of people, only to go down against Undertaker's next WrestleMania opponent. Call it long-term booking or the result of having a really small roster, but I like the Balls-Kelly-Miz angle for moving along slowly but surely. ECW is the only WWE product I feel is worth my undivided attention. There are no manufactured superstars being pushed down our throats, as ECW is seen as being beneath the main eventers, so the show tends to fly under the radar of those who like sticking their fingers into the booking pie. It's funny, when a wrestling show is just allowed to be a wrestling show, how entertaining it can actually be. All this talk about dissolving ECW is a joke. Dissolve ECW? Hell no! Dissolve Raw first. I'm a wrestling fan. If I want entertainment, I'll watch "Rock of Love." If I want sports, there's plenty of that. "Sports entertainment?" No thanks.
PWTORCH FORMAT CONVENTIONS
For the sake of clarity to our readers (and to save us time editing these same things over and over), please follow these simple conventions when writing Torch Reax:
-Wrestlers teaming together should be connected with "&" symbol (e.g. Hunter & Michaels, Devon & Ray) or with a "/" (e.g. Animal/Hawk, Harris/Storm), but not dashes and not the word "and."
-To designate wrestlers who are fighting, feuding, or wrestling each other, put a dash (-) between them (e.g. Michaels-McMahon, Jarrett-Sting, Hogan-Andre) or use "vs."
-The word versus should always be abbreviated this way: "vs." with a period afterward (not "v." or "v/s" or "VS" or "VS." or any other way).
-Plus, it's just our policy, but we don't indulge wresting promotions' strange spelling fetishes where they spell Raw, Smackdown, Heat, Impact, etc. with the haphazard capitalization of various leTTeRz. It seems very "junior high," so no RAW (it's Raw), no iMPACT (it's Impact), etc.
-Please try to avoid overuse of dot-dot-dots. If you have a thought that's "trailing off," you can use for effect, but otherwise, just use periods, commas, and our personal favorite, semicolons if you dare. We have always had a policy of only one exclamation point and no ALL CAPS. Let your words convey the meaning of your point. There's many to choose from out there.
