Raw Ratings Reax #3: "it's the same three or four guys being pushed at the expense of the same 10-15 others." Oct 10, 2007 - 7:59:05 PM
Jamie F.: To me it's pretty simple. Raw has become extremely boring. It's become way too scripted. I realize that Raw must have some sort of format, but can't they shake it up once in awhile? Let the wrestlers give a promo in their voice instead of reading from a script. Also, matches just seem very formula. I used to be able to suspend my disbelief when watching a match. Now, I just feel like it's the same matches, week after week. It's also hard to watch when a match lasts 3-4 minutes. Cut down on the stupid Coach/Hornswaggle/McMahon crap and put on longer matches. I like watching wrestlers that can go in the ring. Snitsky vs. Venis? Are you kidding me? McMahon needs to get off TV and just put on good wrestling matches with intriguing characters. Is that so hard?
John Dupont, Baton Rouge, La.: A long-term solution is too complex, but for the short-term, give us more of what we saw with matches such as Kennedy-Hardy match. The crowd reception during that match should've given the WWE hierarchy an idea of what fans want at this point. They want athleticism more than nepotism, and solid wrestling over stupid skits and further objectification of women. It doesn't mean that wrestling needs to go back to the bland, no-nonsense style of say, Verne Gagne, but maybe feature more mat action and perhaps present the entertainment a bit more subtly. It would also be nice to see a product that does not bury the many talented athletes while pushing just one or two competitors. What brought the WWE its greatest success was a product that didn't revolve around one or two competitors. Such was the case with the days of "Hulkamania" and the Austin/Rock Era. Everyone had a chance to shine. Give the fans more than one or two reasons to watch the program and ratings will improve.
Justin Ballard of Boston, Mass.: I remember when Raw was a can't-miss show every week. I'd be there at 8:57, counting the seconds until the show started. There were always some good matches and storylines, and a lot of the time you never knew what was going to happen. Now it's the same three or four guys being pushed at the expense of the same 10-15 others. It's gotten so tired, stale, boring, and predictable, and if I miss the show I don't feel like I'm missing anything remotely important. On top of this, WWE has been sending the message for the past five years that they don't care who or what I want to see. They're booking the show based on what'll make Vince, Hunter, and Stephanie laugh that week. WWE has gone out of its way to insult, degrade, and disgust its audience ever since they became the only major show in town. Between storylines designed to offend, blatant disregard for the health of its talent, and constant exploitation of anything and anyone, WWE has become an entity I have a hard time supporting at all. The solution? Get back to basics. Put on good wrestling shows with simple, logical storylines written by people who understand the wrestling industry. Push talent that the fans respond to, not talent that looks the way Vince wants them to look. Put a leash on Triple H. I hate to harp on it, but the guy is constantly damaging the company's future. Put the focus back on the wrestlers and keep the McMahons off my TV. Let go of the Attitude Era - it peaked eight years ago. Above all, make WWE fun again!

PWTORCH FORMAT CONVENTIONS
For the sake of clarity to our readers (and to save us time editing these same things over and over), please follow these simple conventions when writing Torch Reax:
-Wrestlers teaming together should be connected with "&" symbol (e.g. Hunter & Michaels, Devon & Ray) or with a "/" (e.g. Animal/Hawk, Harris/Storm), but not dashes and not the word "and."
-To designate wrestlers who are fighting, feuding, or wrestling each other, put a dash (-) between them (e.g. Michaels-McMahon, Jarrett-Sting, Hogan-Andre) or use "vs."
-The word versus should always be abbreviated this way: "vs." with a period afterward (not "v." or "v/s" or "VS" or "VS." or any other way).
-Plus, it's just our policy, but we don't indulge wrestling promotions' strange spelling fetishes where they spell Raw, Smackdown, Heat, Impact, etc. with the haphazard capitalization of various leTTeRz. It seems very "junior high," so no Raw (it's Raw), no iMPACT (it's Impact), etc.
-Please try to avoid overuse of dot-dot-dots. If you have a thought that's "trailing off," you can use for effect, but otherwise, just use periods, commas, and our personal favorite, semicolons if you dare. We have always had a policy of only one exclamation point and no ALL CAPS. Let your words convey the meaning of your point. There's many to choose from out there.
