TNA Impact Reax #1: "Great show. I honestly don't know much people could complain about." Oct 11, 2007 - 11:40:23 PM
Charlie Lillerd of Boston, Mass. (7.5): Best Match: Kurt AngleĀ & The Dudley Boyz vs. Rikishi & LAX. Worst Match: None. Great show. If the main event was stronger I would have liked it better, but I honestly don't know much people could complain about. The only thing I didn't like was that A.J. Styles was treated poorly in the Christian segment, but ''Chattin with the Champ'' is definitely a hit. It's TNA's version of Carlito's Cabana, Piper's Pit, or The Highlight Reel. It serves a good purpose and two hours is definitely great for TNA. Everyone gets TV time and character development. Nash is definitely geared up to return to wrestling again; they're foreshadowing it badly. It will be a nice change and it will give a big name for TNA. I'd like to see Nash feud with Angle right off the bat, with Sting holding the title. I'm hoping Jeff Jarrett will come back soon; he had a nice feud with Roode and he is a good fit in the near-main event but away from the title. A feud with Styles would be awesome. The Angle-Sting segments were great and effective, and Roode-Kaz had some nice development as well. The Don West-Sonjay Dutt deal was a nice way to get over Dutt's gimmick, but was corny. West just flat out is stupid but funny. The Abyss match was okay, and got the point over with the match, but I really wish Black Reign wasn't in it. The Steiners had an effective segment, but I'm pleading for Scott Steiner to go back to single's work. He could be much more effective feuding with the Christian Coalition, a heel Joe, Angle, anyone. Overall, good show, can't wait for BFG.
Johnny B (4.0): Best Match: LAX & Junior Fatu vs. Team 3D & Kurt Angle. Worst Match: Team Pacman vs. XXX. This show was better than last week's, but there's still a lot of room for improvement. Impact opened up with Lethal vs. Havoc in a short match with good in-ring action, Lethal got the win so that's positive. I don't know why TNA continues to put Team Pacman in matches when Pacman can't wrestle. I know you have to build to Bound for Glory, but you can do that with promos and backstage segments. Now we know exactly what we will get at Bound for Glory in the Team Pacman vs. A.J.-Tomko match. We will get a football to the grapefruits, Pacman running around the ring like a fool, Pacman will make it rain (then grab the money from the mat, because you can look like a player by making it rain but you need the money back, that's cool). We've seen these dumb Team Pacman matches twice on TV for free, why would we pay to see it again? We won't, TNA doesn't get that. Oh well. TNA did a nice job with the Knockouts segment and the Gail Kim vs. Amazing Kong match. The X-division and Tag Team division are in shambles, but TNA seems to have a promising Knockout division. What's with all these Bound for Glory "preview" matches? We had one last week and we had another one tonight. Is there really that much of a difference between Raven & Black Reign vs. Rhino & Abyss in a hardcore match and the same guys in a four-way hardcore match? Whatever, I'm sure TNA thinks we loved that brawl so much that we'll shell out $30 or $40 to see it again. The main event had some good action, but it was very clunky at times because of the three overweight wrestlers in the ring. This show gave a bunch of people time to speak, which is a good thing. I've been pushing for some mic time for Homicide and he had some tonight. The Kurt Angle-Rikishi pooping segment was straight out of the Vince Russo 1999 playbook. The Sting dummy deal was WCW Thunder at its worst. The Samoa Joe interview was okay at times and I had a few laughs but Joe getting knocked out by a coconut ruined it for me. The show had a decent overall build to Bound for Glory, but it ended badly with Sting dressed up like a member of the Latino Nation. Overall, a better show than last week, but it was still a trainwreck in many ways.
