TNA Impact Reax #1: "Sting and Gail Kim seemed genuinely moved by the crowd's reaction to them." Oct 19, 2007 - 11:48:12 AM
Nate Heftie of Houston, Texas (6.0) Best Match: Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage. I didnt see all of the show and I actually missed the Sabin vs. Shelly non-match, but from what I read (and from the end of show recap) I didn't really miss anything... I too am an X-Division fan and so I agree with those who feel having it squashed like it was tonight is just totally wrong. Is TNA just trying to totally alienate fans with that? On the plus side, the main event was good, as matches between Joe and Christian usually are. I wish it hadn't ended with interference, but that is usual with TNA. The "Parade of Champions" with the belt was well done, I thought. And I personally got a kick out of Jim Cornette trying to say "the opportunity to fight for the right to fight for the right to fight for the right." There was one thing I noticed none of the PWTorch reviewers mention, and maybe the commercial only aired here in Houston. But, there was a commercial for Booker T's PWA, promoting an unpcoming card, and it specifically mentioned TNA's own X-Division Champion Jay Lethal. Not the best show, but not too bad either, and the main event was very good..good enough to make the show that much better.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (6.0): Best: Kaz and Crazy Legs promos; Christian vs. Joe (until the interference ruined it). Worst: Abyss vs. Disco Inferno (with post-match) "On the grandest stage of them all" heard barely seconds into the opening gave me all kinds of vibes that something was going to be wrong with tonight's show. One-quarter or more of the program was dominated by the KKK show (as in Kurt, Karen, and Kevin) which went nowhere fast. There was the sheer grossness of the postmatch "beatdown" involving a rat in a bag following the squash of Disco Inferno (who?). If they really wanted to play with WCW parodies, they should have found Gillberg. Chris Harris is apparently turning back heel for reasons I have no concept of, other than they creatively blew the promising face run. What could have been a match of the night, Sabin vs. Shelley, was ruined by Team 3D before it ever got started. And the match of the night, somewhat sloppy that it was, was thoroughly ruined by an ungodly amount of interference: Styles and Tomko, who were celebrating their win earlier despite Christian's petty whining; Matt Morgan, who had already served his enforcer duties at the PPV; and Robert Roode, who I am sure is now the diversion from what could have been Joe's run for the gold. Yes, I too am getting annoyed that Joe isn't getting his props for all his hard work. There was some good here, though. While I hated the whole Kurt-Karen-Kevin menage a trois, Kevin Nash had the most believable performance. His thoughts and motives I could make the most sense of. Sting and Gail Kim seemed genuinely moved by the crowd's reaction to them, and thanks to Jim Cornette for not interrupting that. And what makes a good promo to me, whether it's intense or fun, is I get a sense of spark or gleam from the one(s) giving the promo. I saw that tonight from Crazy Legs (someone having nothing to do with wrestling) and "The K-A-Z." Kaz has a face that reminds me a bit of Razor Ramon, but he was very bubbly on the mic without coming across as cheesy. Too bad most of the rest of the outgo show was that, cheesy.
