WWE Raw Reax #1: " I was really excited for Raw, and it was 100 percent for Chris Jericho." Oct 29, 2007 - 10:35:30 PM
Troy Cummings of Astoria, N.Y. (0.0): Best Match: Hornswaggle vs. Coach. Worst Match: No Y2J. I was really excited for Raw, and it was 100 percent for Chris Jericho. I paid attention to every segment expecting Jericho at the top of the hour, after the second "Save Us" video, and definitely during the main event. I didn't care about DX in 2006, I don't care about the Diva Search, and I definitely don't care about Shawn Michaels talking about how he has a small package. The one saving grace of Raw was the Hornswaggle vs. Coach match. Granted, I never want to see it again, as a one time deal I thought it was very light and fun, and definitely "put a smile on faces." I also started to notice why Kennedy is getting rave reviews from his peers. He definitely seems to be "in the moment" when he's on camera unlike a guy like Carlito, and I just hope his in-ring wrestling catches up to this character. Otherwise, I think this show was just more rehashing, and more horizontal movement for mid-carders who will never get pushed.
Jennifer Stevens of New York, N.Y. (3.5): Best match: Hardy/Smith vs. Kennedy/Carlito. Worst match: Divas battle royal. I fully expected Jericho to return at the top of the second hour tonight, right about the time Hornswoggle came out to square off against Jonathan Coachman, because the show had been so terrible up to that point that I couldn't imagine they weren't doing it on purpose to deliberately "save us." I can understand not wanting to rush Jericho's return and kudos for that - WWE's been around a good long time and has endured every up and down of the business, and I trust they do know what they're doing - but can't they give us better shows than this in the meantime? Only the Hardy/Smith vs. Kennedy/Carlito match was any good; all of the others were either too short (main event, Holly/Rhodes vs. WGTT, and London vs. Cade - averaging about 3:20 each) or too stupid (divas, Hornswoggle vs. Coach) to mean anything. I try to give Raw the benefit of the doubt, but at the end of the day I want my wrestling, and I want my entertainment. I got very little of either tonight. Is the roster really so depleted that we have a leprechaun and a glorified commentator opening the second hour of WWE's undisputed "A" show? Even the vignettes were off, as the Vince McMahon vs. HBK promo seemed forced and a later promo with Hornswoggle backstage went on way too long. I will admit I loved Santino's segment late in the show, but I just wish someone would have told me beforehand that I could turn the TV on around 10:20 p.m. and be in much better shape for the night.
Chris Glavin (1.0): Best Match: The Santino Segment. Worst Match: Everything Else. The greatest bait and switch in the history of bait and switches! I should have seen it coming from the beginning of the show that this was going to be a stinker. From a dedicated wrestling fan my entire life I have not watched raw for two months and watched it last week to be pleasantly surprised. I follow up this week looking for the return of Chris Jericho as was promised, and got nothing. Vince vs. DX Version 756 we got instead. It is as if the WWE does not want to improve their product and just spits on the fans. I remember when Stone Cold left, Vince talked about how he left on WWE Confidential how he had a responsibility to deliver for the fans. Well Vince, you did not deliver what you promised. That makes you a condescending prick!
