WWE Raw Reax #4: "I was expecting Y2J to return tonight, and I'm glad he didn't. I'd much rather be surprised." Oct 30, 2007 - 12:12:57 AM
Bernie McGrath of Middletown, N.J. (8.5): Best Match: Rhodes/Holly vs. Carlito/Kennedy. Worst Match: Hornswoggle McMahon vs. Johnathan Coachman. This was one of the best Raws of this year, and by far the best one without John Cena. I actually liked the Diva's Battle Royal and I think the women did a good job with the match, though I was a little surprised at the Kelly Kelly victory. The Shawn Michaels-Vince promo was a work of genius. McMahon was as convincing as he has been in a while and Michaels is always good with a mic in hand. Cody Rhodes is one of my favortie guys on Raw and I'm so glad to see him and Hardcore Holly there to spice up the tag division. It really looks like Raw's tag division will be pretty deep in a few months. Trevor Murdoch really is not a heel and hasn't been one for a long time. He is getting much better in the ring and is one of the more likeable characters overall. I like the dynamic that Lance Cade is the exact opposite. The Hornswoggle-Coahman match was just embarrassing. Seeing Mick Foley being stuck with crap like that - as well as having no one care about him - really upsets me. The show picked up again when more great tag action came where another favorite of mine, Harry Smith, teamed up with Jeff Hardy. I'm really glad to see Smith working with crowd favorites like Hardy; he'll be a star one day. Santino is probably the greatest character in a really long time. He is easily the funniest (and without Cena, the most entertaining) guy on the show and he does a great job ripping on Stone Cold each week. The main event was trash, but it sets up a good feud between the two teams. The lack of Y2J did not really upset me, but it seemed to upset the crowd. They are getting one of the best Raws of the year, and all they can do is chant "Y2J" during some great contests. Boo Philly fans! Yeah Raw!
Bob Malachowski of Whitesboro, N.Y. (0.0): Best Match: Nothing. Worst Match: WWE vs. Philadelphia. Boy, how disappointed must the live crowd have been tonight? Shawn demands a rematch, and they think they are getting one, only to find it booked for Survivor Series. The glass breaks, huge pop for Stone Cold... but no Austin. Several chants for "Y2J," and no Jericho. And lastly a three minute main event. Yay. This show was horrible. I thought our voices were heard in WWE headquarters when we write in our show reactions? Apparently WWE didn't hear everyone raving about last week's show because this show was horrible. Could the new message "Break the Code on 19_launch." mean Jericho on November 19th, the day after Survivor Series? Can WWE milk this crappy roster that long before debuting Jericho?
Jay Povo of Sturbridge, Mass. (7.0): Best: Hardy/Smith vs. Kennedy/Carlito. Worst: Main event. The wrestling tonight wasn't too great, but that was quite the entertaining show. Victoria in the sumo costume was hilarious, which saved what would have been another lousy diva battle royal. Beth Phoenix has it all; her entrance is original, she can actually wrestle, and she is the best female I've ever heard cut a promo. I love the Glamazon. I am enjoying the Holly/Rhodes program, but I'm much more impressed with D.H. Smith. He really seems like he's got what it takes, and its good to see him in a match with such high caliber superstars. Seeing Kennedy tag with Carlito makes me think again that there needs to be more stables in the WWE, as those two worked very well together and could be the cornerstones of a fresh, young, heel stable. We're all sick of the Horny and Coach show, but it's here to stay. It's worth a few chuckles, so whatever. Apparently Superman Trips is here to stay as well, which is unfortunate. It's one thing for him to always look strong even against two big-time heels, it is quite another thing to have one of those heels be your WWE Champion. Randy Orton was a total beast when he was chasing the title, and now that he's won it he suddenly becomes a coward and a punching bag for the aging HBK? Why does the guy chasing the belt always have to look stronger than the champ? And I'm sure there are a lot of people happy to see DX together again, but I'm not one of them. I guess a couple of 40 year olds don't really come off as degenerates to me as much as they did a decade ago. As far as Y2J goes, I was expecting him to return tonight, and I'm glad he didn't. I'd much rather be surprised.
