WWE ECW Reax #1: " It was the Halloween show for Vince's bottom tier and they had some fun with it." Oct 31, 2007 - 12:34:30 PM
Sam Robinson of Sykesville Md. (7.5): Best: Morrison vs. Miz Worst: Nothing really stands out. It was the Halloween show for Vince's bottom tier players and they had some fun with it. It was made out as a very campy episode and came off well in that respect (unless of course they were trying to be serious, then there are a lot of problems). I liked the idea of a gimmick "extreme rules" match with Nunzio and Dreamer dressed up, though I didn't like the fact that Tazz and Styles "didn't" know who Dreamer was supposed to be. The big men battle royal was what it was, though I was really impressed with Mark Henry and the over-the-top rope belly-to-belly suplex for the win. I don't watch Smackdown, but couldn't they really play up the gorilla gimmick? I could see Henry as a gorilla, have him talk about the ring being his jungle and hunting prey and basically rip off Monty Brown's old act. Hell, Vince thinks no one would know what that gimmick was anyways, so he would get credit for a great idea. There was actually a second or two there where I thought they were actually going to give Miz the win, and not put us through Punk vs. Morrison again. But, alas, WWE never learns from Cyber Sunday.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (6.0): Best: Burke vs. Yang; Kane promo. Worst: Big Daddy V; no progress in the Balls-Miz feud A disappointing follow-up to the PPV, though they did keep to the Halloween theme. I still wonder what it was that Elijah Burke did to be so downgraded after the New Breed dissolution. What gives with his balking at doing the Outer Limitz Elbow? The crowd might have stayed more in the match if he did it. It may explain why he looked legit disappointed about his match (or his position). Where was Striker tonight? He was there, but was no factor at all in the Monster Mash. Finally there was a match under Extreme Rules, and the weaponry fit the theme (apples, pumpkin, apple water bin, and pumpkin pies), but it wasn't a true Extreme Rules match, which took the crowd mostly out of it. Miz-Morrison looked pretty stiff; wonder if there are real issues going on there. Hopefully Morrison is okay after he smacked his head pretty hard on the ring barrier. Now that Miz has been taken out of the title picture, there may be some fuel for the Balls-Miz-Kelly fire. It just felt odd that two of the three parties were there, and not one word from or about anyone. Kelly was destroyed on Raw, and no reaction from Balls or Miz. Of the "main event" Big Daddy did the worst of the four, starting with the really flimsy throw of Kane which almost started the crowd crapfest. Strangely, though, Mark Henry needed the win more than Kane did. And Khali seems to be slowly phasing into the background as he should.
Brian Jaffe of Iowa CIty, Iowa (0.5): Best Match: Morrison vs. Miz. Worst Match: Everything else. Just last week, my brother and I were talking about how WWE might be turning around, given how great Raw was a week ago (we both sent in reviews). We were wrong. This was a terrible, terrible show, and there's no other way to describe it. Miz vs Morrison was good, but it was way too short. Everything else was terrible. The set was laughably bad, and playing up the Halloween theme got old very, very quick. Burke is so lost right now, it's not even funny. It may have been the saddest thing I've ever seen on a wrestling show when commentary were forced to act like they didn't recognize Tommy Dreamer's Paul Heyman outfit. Why was Punk, ECW Champion, facing a jobber, anyway? The main event threatened to create a black hole of suck from which nothing could escape, and it nearly did when Big Daddy V botched the spinning sidewalk slam... twice in a row. There wasn't even a Save_Us video to distract me from the pain. ECW is usually fairly bad, but this show was absolutely terrible.
