WWE Raw Reax #1: "That was the most entertaining Raw for all long time." Dec 11, 2007 - 12:50:23 AM
Travis Adams, 28, of Boise, Idaho: Best Segment: Everything was well done. Worst Segment: Commercial breaks. That was the most entertaining Raw for all long time. It seems like fifteen years. Seeing the wrestlers from bygone eras was great nostalgia. They need to sign Tammy Lynn Sytch to a deal; she is sexier than when I last remember seeing her. The biggest mark out moment for me was the suprise return of Rob Van Dam, I didn't see it coming, and was not let down by his return, a la Save_Us.222. The Legends Battle Royal was fun, Steve Keirn lost a few pounds, while Jim Neidhart, Mike Rotunda, and Ted Dibiase are on the Vader diet. Last of all, Hogan looked gassed after his sequence with Hornswaggle and Khali. The bodyslam heard around the world at WrestleMania 24 should be kept short, sweet, and to the point. Overall, a great effort by Vince & Co. Next week will be a uphill battle after this showcase of a Raw.
Kevin of Connecticut (9.5): Best Match: N/A, just a great feel to the show all around. Worst Match: Cody Rhodes/Holly vs. Cade/Murdoch. As much as I like Cody Rhodes, there's just relative confusion with that angle, but nonetheless, he is Dusty Rhodes's son and is the possible future of the WWE. The show all around was just great fun and entertainment. I didn't know what to expect, but I was really happy with the result. Great job plugging both Raw's 15th and Armageddon. Evolution's reunion was well done, especially since it is essentially the probably the last incarnation of the Four Horsemen. The match showed off some future top billing rivalries such as Edge-Triple H and Batista-Orton. HBK cut some good promos,. The opening segment was fun especially with Triple H and Stephanie. The ladder match was well done for a TV match. And the gimmick battle royal was fun for what it was; great to see those characters such as DiBiase in classic form. The divas were great, Sunny looked fantastic, Trish is hotter than ever, and it was great to see Lita get a big pop. Is it just me or did Hogan challenge Macho Man tonight? I was disappointed not to see him in Red and Yellow and a little disappointed he didn't slam Khali, but anyone can tell, he'll be back soon, especially with the biggest pop of the night. The ending segment was fun. Vince played his character well, and played off a great tribute to Foley, Taker, and Austin. The last segment with all the superstars was great as well. HBK should have had a little more exposure, though. Oh, and Rock or "Dwayne," as great an entertainer as you are, you sold out.
Sean James of New York (6.0): Best Match: Hardy vs. Carlito. Worst Match: Crowd's enthusiasm vs. poor Mick Foley. So that's it? That's one of their biggest shows of the year? It seems like the WWE trots out these same "legends" over and over, and the law of diminishing returns is in full force. The live crowd, at least to me at home, was not nearly as into this show as you might suspect they would be. I think a big part of that is the fact that there's so many very young viewers watching (brought in by John Cena and Rey Mysterio) who just aren't familiar with guys such as Marty Jannety and the people in the battle royal (what a dull collection of characters in that one, by the way). Raw has been so stale for so long, and they can't come up with a new, compelling storyline to save their life. They are seemingly unable to entertain anyone over the age of 12 any more. The sad truth is that most of us long term fans with expendable income just skim Raw results now and focus our energy on watching old stuff or fun up-and-coming feds like CHIKARA. Also, can someone tell me why they're jobbing Santino out like this when he's their most entertaining character? Even Eugene got a push. And why the heck were they so quick to cut away from RVD's massive pop?
