Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (2.0): Best: Tomko Worst: A.J. Styles mess. Tonight's show was a total cluster, as about half to two-thirds in, I'm climbing the walls wondering when this was going to end. Just about everyone on the roster was involved on TV (including the supposedly-departed Senshi). The gauntlet matches at least showed focus in the wrestling, but in the end most of what was seen was irrelevant. Petey's got the case for the World Title shot, but was nowhere near that gauntlet. O.D.B. got a major face reaction, which seems to be finally acknowledged by TNA, but isn't on the PPV. Kong, which took three to eliminate, is on the PPV vying for the title. Where does she rank now? None of the champions scouted these gauntlets, which makes them all unimportant. The gauntlets should have been more standard, with those who were booked to the PPV defending their positions. I feel so sorry for Alan, a/k/a A.J. Styles. He is a three-time Triple Crown champion, and this is who he is, some redneck with a trailer-like family? I know that sounds so stereotypical, but he is being so disrespectfully portrayed. Tomko right now is the only one on the roster who hasn't been majorly tainted. He came across extremely strong, a tough face who's chosen the loner path. The whole Joe-Nash-Cornette thing had good and bad. The good was the confrontation between Joe and Nash. The bad was that Cornette booked Joe/Nash vs. Styles/Tomko, as opposed to second-ranked Hoyt/Rave (as the top-ranked Guns are elsewhere on the card), and Cornette failed yet again to address the stolen X Title belt. The belt has been held hostage 53 days now, and I've yet to see 3D suffer any consequences for it.
Sam Robinson of Sykesville Md. (4.5): Best: Gauntlets Suck. Worst: Four Different Gauntlets. Well, it’s official. There are now a whole bunch of things I don’t care about. (1) Whose side is A.J. on? (2) Gauntlet matches. (3) The Royal Rumble (all the gauntlets tonight ruined it for me) (4) Will Lethal get his belt back (though I still want to see team 3D try to compete in ultimate X) (5) VKM. I think five is enough, but I’m sure I missed some. I’m still going to be watching TNA, but not with near the enthusiasm I had. It’s getting quite monotonous to watch, but I love my wrestling that much. How many guys looked like they were phoning it in last night, though. From B.G. James, to Kevin Nash (been years for him, though) and half the other guys in the Hvt Gauntlet. I did pop for a Canadian Destroyer, though. How big is Senshi to keep jobbing on his way out to make others look good? That takes a big person; too bad he’s on his way out, though.
Adam J. Grammas of Westchester, Ill. (6.5): Best-X Division gauntlet. Worst-Styles’ “family’s” acting. Not the best set up to a PPV, but I really didn’t think it was bad, either. I like the fact that (other than Christian) the winners are people who aren’t already challenging for the titles. If they don’t go the “reluctant tag champs” route with Joe & Big Kev at the PPV, it looks like the MCMG will get the next run, and I like to see that. As far as the Knockouts match goes, I was glad to see them team up to eliminate Kong, for the very reason I stated above. I knew ODB would be getting the win since she’s getting pops (which I can’t understand - the leg kick and smacking her chest is annoying), but I still held out a little hope for Roxxi to win. I guess I should be happy that they kept Roxxi in til the end, but I’m hoping she gets a face push down the road. I’m very glad to see Petey get the push he deserves and it’ll be interesting to see how they deal with him being in line for two different titles. I just hope they don’t maneuver it so the heavyweight shot goes back to Steiner. As far as the main event, I too thought it was odd that the ref got in the ring with Christian still on the outside, but there was no official announcement made, so I guess he was allowed to go in and face off with Joe. They could’ve figured out a way to eliminate Nash, though. He didn’t need to be protected in that kind of match, but they could’ve even done it in a way where he wouldn’t have looked bad. Now, as far as the Styles’s family clips, A.J. is supposed to be over the top with his comedy and he’s good at it. But his “family” was just WAY over the top. Why would his high school coach and third grade teacher care who his choice is? But overall, I thought it was a decent show getting all the storylines involved for the PPV.
