ECW Reax #2: "Miz doesn’t make me wanna punch myself in the face anymore." Jan 9, 2008 - 10:22:44 AM
Paul M. of Ann Arbor, Mich. (7.0): Best: Punk vs. Chavo. Worst: Big V vs. greasy jobber. So is it so bad to have a show where they wrestle and use the matches to tell stories? They don’t have crazy storylines, and 15 minute promos, but they are getting their characters over. Wow. Morrison looks like a champ, and Miz doesn’t make me wanna punch myself in the face anymore. They actually benefit from being the C show and flying under the radar. The McMahons don’t feel obliged to spruce it up with a lame Jerry Springer story twist. I really liked the main event. Felt old school. The match told the story of a hungry challenger, and a champion that survived to fight another day with a TV ending I can live with. Unfortunately, they suffer from the same problem as TNA: consistency
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (6.0): Best: Miz/Morrison vs. Yang/Moore. Worst: Dance-off. Good stuff at the beginning and end with a serious lag in the middle. The better of the two ends was the opener. I had reservations that they would try to jam fall after fall into 15 minutes, but thankfully there were only two. The last few seconds looked botched, but it could also be selling as Yang's knee had been worked on. I could buy the "this close" reason for the rematch, and the match was good. Chavo got desperate at the end which I could buy for the DQ finish. Now, though, there should be no more for now, but where does Punk go now when it looks like Shelton Benjamin has his gold eyes on the Rumble? Collin Delaney is this generation's 1-2-3 Kid. The big guys on the roster have decimated him, so hopefully the only way to go is up. His facials are fabulous, and he's been the perfect seller. Layla clearly won the dance-off, followed by Lena then Kelly. But no one in the crowd seemed to care. Search runner-up Lena is here; where is winner Eve? And Lena comes across as so fake and rehearsed it isn't funny. If only the middle of the show was like the start and finish, the night would have been a good one.
