Women's Title Main Event: History of previous headline women's title match on prime time cable Jan 13, 2008 - 5:37:26 PM
WK: I reported in my TNA Impact report that Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim was a historical moment because I couldn't remember another Women's Title match headlining a two-hour prime time wrestling program. Several readers have written in with another example. I stand corrected...
Hi Wade. I was reading your review on TNA's Impact and you said that for the first time in the history of a two hour cable show, a women's match was the main event. In the year 2000, Lita faced Stephanie McMahon for the Women's Title as the main event, with The Rock as the special guest referee. I realize that Kong and Kim as a more legit wrestling vibe, but it's not the first time a women's match has been used as a main event. Thanks and your website is great.

Hey Wade. You said on the VIP Mitchell Audio Show the other day that you didn't recall a women's title match ever headlining a primetime wrestling show. Lita's WWE Women's Title win over Stephanie MaMahon headlined a Raw back in 2000. It was hardly the athletic showcase that Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong was, but nevertheless, it was something of a precedent.

Hey Wade!
Just to be a know-it-all, before Pat gets to it, I'd like to point out that there has previously been a TV main event with the women's title on the line. Back in 2000, Stephanie McMahon held the women's championship. Lita, meanwhile, had recently teamed up with the Hardy Boys and was getting extremely popular. Stephanie and Lita ended up "wrestling" in the main event of Raw in a match that had tons of heat. Of course, it was mostly about the interference from Stephanie's stable, including Triple H, X-Pac, and Road Dogg, with the Rock intervening along with the Hardys on Lita's side. Either way, I remember it pretty fondly. Lita won!
Torch kicks ass lately, can't wait to see what the big news is.

ADDENDUM...
I see everyone brings up Lita-Stephanie from 2000, with the Rock as guest referee, but I can remember another time. December 6, 2004, with Chris Jericho as GM for the night, Lita defeated Trish Stratus for her second Womens title in the main event of Raw,

If I'm not mistaken, Lita and Trish headlined Raw with a Women's Title match in 2004. That's the one where Lita dove through the ropes and almost snapped in half when she landed.
