WWE Raw Reax #6: "The Shawn Michaels promo was a nice way for him to play his feeling of guilt." Apr 3, 2008 - 2:28:02 AM
Bob Grau of Charlotte N.C. (9.5): Best Match: Flair Tribute. Worst Match: Who cares? I had to wait to write my reaction to what I saw on Raw Monday Night to allow it to set in. Wow, wrestling without Ric Flair, who of us older fans (I'm 44) could have ever imagined? The tribute was assume. I was a bit nervous to see how Vince was going to handle this. I guess Vince got smart and let someone else do it. My understanding it was Triple H. It was very, very well done. The reason I only gave the show a 9.5 rating was because there could have been so much more done. First of all, it could have and probably should have been longer. I don't believe that anyone who bought a ticket or those who watched it on TV would have cared if it was over a hour long. I wish the tribute could have taken place in either Greenville, but they did get a tribute show for Ric a number of years back; Greensboro, site of his first world championship; or his home town of Charlotte, but I do understand that would have been tough to pull off with the other wrestlers schedules. Also, I would have hoped that Jeff Jarrett was a better man and allow some of the TNA roster to attend, at least Sting. I guess Jeff forgot who put him and his daddy on the map. And lastly, the belt should have been presented to him and retired also. Overall, an excellent tribute. Wrestling will never be the same without The Nature Boy. Thank you, Ric.
Jay of the United Kingdom - Occupation: Call centre worker (100.0): I can't say best and worst. If there were bad points, I lost track. Orton-Hardy was good. Glad to see Matt back. Wow, classy, respectful, and wow. Orton wasnt the only one not in the ring with a tear. I never really got into Flair, don't know why, I wish I had, because he showed a class of his own - classy, respectful, appreciative, humble, honest... well, someone who gave his all for the business and showed a lot of respect for it and the people in it. He wasn't a Hogan miling everyone and their support and cheers before milking the next match for a huge payday. This was a true guy thanking the fans, his peers, the stars to come, and the ones who have passed his thanks for helping making him who he is and by God, he was the man. Thank you, Flair, for being the man and for showing what a class act really is.
Bryant Mooney of Stamford, Conn. (7.5): Best Match: Randy Orton vs. Matt Hardy/= and the Ric Flair Fairwell Address. Worst Match: Maria vs. Santino Marella. This was actually a pretty decent edition of Raw as I was expecting it to be a sleeper edition being that it is the night after WrestleMania. I liked Orton's trickery of having Triple H and John Cena's music play and then come out. I'm really unsure about JBL being the no. 1 contender for the WWE Championship. Maybe it will work, but I'm not completely sold on it yet. I was shocked to see Cryme Tyme return to action and I'm glad that they're back so it can give a little spark to the tag team division. The Shawn Michaels promo was a nice way for him to play his feeling of guilt for ending Ric Flair's career. The London/Kendrick vs. Cade/Murdoch match was an okay match, but I was expecting more friction between London and Kendrick. Oh well, maybe next week. I thought that the Punk vs. Jericho match was going to be a long match, but it startled me to see that it only went six minutes; it was probably for the best as the two men are likely sore after the MITB match. I personally wouldn't mind seeing The Great Khali vs. The Big Show in the near future in a battle of the giants type of match. Randy Orton vs. Matt Hardy was definitely the match of the night. It went at a good pace and Orton did a good job selling as always and nailed an amazing RKO out of nowhere that had me amped. The Maria vs. Santino Marella match just wasn't necessary for me this week because I was ready for Ric Flair's farewell address at this point. It felt very pointless for me and just didn't belong this week. I really enjoyed the Ric Flair fairwell address because it had true emotion and it was good to see the original Four Horsemen reunite again in the ring with Flair. The great part about it is that he didn't have to tell the emotion, but we were able to feel it ourselves. The appearances by many other legends and superstars that Flair wrestled and were friends with was also a great touch. It felt like one big reunion of pioneer wrestlers and current superstars and, as a lifelong wrestling fan, I enjoyed every second of it. The emotion that was in the arena from the fans and wrestlers I truly felt through the TV screen. It was a truly emotional segment and definitely one of the best ways for one of the greatest wrestlers of all time to go out.
