Best Entrance Music Reax #1: "You can't talk about classic theme songs, and not bring up the Ultimate Warrior's 'Unstable' theme."

We will be running a poll to determine the Best Entrance Music Ever in the future. We recently asked for nominations from readers. We will be publishing batches of your nominations with some readers making a case for their picks as prepration for our tournament poll.
This might sound like a popular answer without any real thought, but I think I'm gonna go with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's music. The music itself wasn't much, but the glass breaking has to be the single greatest crowd-popper in entrance theme history. When it comes to entrance music, what makes them great is the initial sounds and music that grabs the fans attention. When Manking faced the Rock in Worchester, Mass in 1998 I believe (the year may be slightly off) on Raw and took the title, Austin's glass-breaking produced what I still think might be the biggest pop I've ever heard.
For runners-up, I like Triple H's. I also really enjoyed Orton's and have no idea why they gave him this new stupid music, it kills the crowd. They play Orton's music and you can just hear the crowd go "oh God it's Orton and we hate him but I just can't bring myself to boo him because this music is just so bad and blah." I also like John Cena's music because of how he responds to it; I really like to see him come out yelling and getting all fired up. And, cheesy as it may be, I absolutely love Hulk Hogan's old "I am a real American" music.
Another interesting category would be wrestlers who have had the best music compiled over there careers. An example could be Triple H, because I really like his current music but also thought he had good music in the Attitude Era.

"Rock and Roll is King," by Electric Light Orchestra (Rock and Roll Express in Watts’ UWF)
This team was really over in their time, and the opening line ("Listen everybody, let me tell you ‘bout the rock and roll") told ticket-buyers who was coming whether they were familiar with the theme music or not. The crowd was in a frenzy before they ever saw the wrestlers. A terrific case of matching the music to the name of the team! Too bad licensing costs or the Not Invented Here syndrome kept the team from continuing to use the theme.

1. Hulk Hogan: "Real American"
I've got a few I'd like to mention here, but I'll start with easily the best entrance song of all time, Hulk Hogan's classic "Real American" theme. For a song to be great, it has to stand the test of time, and not be a song a wrestler only had for a short time. Hulk first started using this classic from Rick Derringer in 1986, and he still uses it today for his WWE appearances. With the heavy hard rock beats, and the inspiring american lyrics, it is a true classic, in every sense of the word. It makes you proud to be an american, and there's never been a song better suited for a character, than this song was for Hogan. I still get pumped up every time I hear it, even after all these years.
2. Shawn Michaels: "Sexy Boy"
Next up is another song that has also stood the test of time, and that's Shawn Michael's "Sexy Boy" theme music. He first started using this song in 1992, as Sherri sang the song, but that quickly changed to Shawn singing the song in 1993, and he's used it ever since. It also has some heavy rock beats in it, similar to Hogan's, yet it fits Shawn's persona perfectly. Scott Hall always says to be over in this business, chicks must want to be with you, and guys must want to be you, and this song made Shawn exactly that. Even Ric Flair commented on an interview just a couple months ago, how he loved Shawn's theme song. It's another true classic for sure.
3. Ultimate Warrior: "Unstable"
You can't talk about classic theme songs, and not bring up the Ultimate Warrior's "Unstable" theme. It's been said many times over, but no song instantly excited a crowd, and sent them into a frenzy more than Warrior's music. It was an explosive track, that fit his character as good, or better than any wrestler's theme ever has. To this day, people still talk about Warrior, and probably always will, and some of that credit has to go to that song. Even on "The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" DVD that came out a while back, they all put over that song, and Warrior's entrance in general. With him running to the ring, and shaking the ropes, this song captured all of that energy perfectly, and is also another classic theme.
4. Demolition's Theme Music:
I talked about Rick Derringer earlier singing Hogan's theme, but he also did another classic track in my opinion, and that was the theme music of Demolition. Demolition was my favorite tag team as a kid, and still my favorite team of all time. Even though they followed in the footsteps of the Road Warriors, they quickly carved out their own nitch, and became a legendary WWF tag team. Their song was truly an example of hard rock at it's best, as it punched you right in the face, from the first note on. I can still remember some of the classic lyrics, "Here comes the Ax, here comes the Smasher, the Demolition, walking disaster, pain and destruction, is our middle name!" It's one of the most memorable tracks ever, and is easily in my top five for sure.
5. The NWO Theme Music:
Now this was a great track, that truly captured what this faction was all about. People sometimes called it porno music, but that also fit their attitude as well. Before there was Stone Cold, DX, or anything else from the "Attitude Era", there was the NWO turning the corner in the business, into a more edgy and adult format. They became the most talked about, and profitable group in the history of the business, and that includes The Four Horsemen, DX, or any other group you can think of. Hogan, Hall and Nash, took us from watching Duke "The Dumpster", or Henry Godwin, and gave us hope the wrestling business was going in a better direction, than what Vince had on his shows at the time. As Scott Hall has said many times, you could go to any bar in 1996 or 1997, and you would see NWO t-shirts everywhere. They made wrestling cool again, and were a huge part of the change, and overall direction that the wrestling business took at that time. That theme music was a big part of helping us all to turn the page, and enter a new chapter in professional wrestling history.

Firstly, as many people will probably do, I'd like to nominate the Undertakers theme/entrance music. I nominate this because I have never, ever, heard a peice of music in wrestling that defines the wrestler so much. Even though it is the basic death march music, surely there is no other theme that encapsulates (sp) the drama and pagentry ( cliche copywright VKM 1990) of any wrestlers. let alone the Undertakers entrance, into the wrestling ring. There is simply nothing else like it.
Secondly, I'd like to nominate Batista's current music. I'll say this how I feel, like a true mark. Every single time I hear that music, I know somone is going to get his head kicked in.

Demolition's theme is the best song ever. Totally fit the characters, sounds pure evil, built anticipation for the match, and the song just plain rocks.
