WWE Raw Reax #1: "Beth Phoenix's botched slam of Johhny Knoxville was one of the worst botched moves I've ever seen."

Dan Strauss of Goodhue, Minn. (6.5) Best: Unsure, main event I guess. Worst: Beth Phoenix's botched body slam. I thought the opening segment was alright, but they're becoming predictable. I give WWE credit for at least trying to continue the Mysterio vs. Kane feud, but it just seems like it's a storyline just for the sake of having a storyline. I really like the John Cena commercials because they're pretty accurate of his reception to the fans, and they highlight his dedication and work ethic, something that I don't think is matched by anyone else in the business. Haas Hogan was hilarious. I give the guy credit for having all the mannerisms and physical moves down of a new person each week. Shawn Michaels vs. Batista was decent. I hate lumberjack matches where not everyone participates. Michael Cole did a good job of putting over the history between the two. Beth Phoenix's botched slam of Johhny Knoxville was one of the worst botched moves I've ever seen. But, humans make mistakes and she didn't let it show that she had just f'd up. For some reason I thought it was awesome that Boogeyman returned. WWE has really gotten away from over-the-top characters like Boogeyman since the Attitude Era, so they're fun to see every once and awhile. Seeing Punk in the main event was a pleasant surprise, as I had honestly not even thought of him. Punk is an example of a guy whoi's probably not going to be a solid champ, but definitely a main eventer, and he fills the role nicely. The match and eventual screwjob was obvious, but Punk got a rub from it. Looking back on the last two hours, Raw wasn't terrible, and it seems there was some though put into it. I would suggest they start promoting at least some of these big matches ahead of time. Raw just seems to be missing something lately. They put on decent shows but seem to fall short of a star-powered, exciting show, and I'm hoping they can find their way out of this rut.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Michaels-Jericho exchange Worst: That feeling of deja vu; Jackass crapola. Compared to last week, the entire show felt like the line from the Herman Hermits song "I'm Henry VIII I Am": "second verse same as the first." Save for the specific Cyber Sunday build, everything else was pretty much note-for-note rematches, another chapter of the Cena saga, and just about every bit of it was phoned in. Another morsel of the Michaels-Jericho feud is fed the crowd, who seems to continue buying into the storyline long after most feuds would have died. Judging by Randy's promo, there's a distinct awareness that his name was put in "just because," but methinks he won't be idle come the end of October. At least they're using the Austin-Jericho tie aw a way to create a "holding an old grudge" logic to explain Austin's name being on the ballot. And finally they used "A begets B begets C" to link the whole Flair-Michaels-Batista-Jericho quadrangle together. Hopefully after tonight Shawn won't have to wrestle much, as you could tell the toll on him in the Michaels-Batista match (it wasn't all selling). Interesting to book an all-heel lumberjack squad, but how would the entire heel roster know to be there when Jericho booked Michaels-Batista on reflex? The whole Knoxville stuff was complete crap, and the crowd understood it by either indifference or crapping on the segments. Poor Beth, the biggest victim of the whole ridiculously overbooked mess. I had a chuckle or two, and I continue to be entertained by Charlie Haas and his getups, but knowing that Jackass was involved in tonight's show, my expectations for a good show instantly went down. The show didn't do a whole lot to surpass them.
