TNA Bound for Glory PPV Reax #1: "Another god-awful promo from Booker T this week, though the match with Hernandez wasn't bad."

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (5.0): Best: Angle-Jarrett exchange; Christy promo. Worst: Nash and Booker promos; "too little too late" build for Las Vegas. I'm probably being kind with the 5.0 score because after what looked like a good PPV on paper, the outgo show is a big mess. The Guns have been treated like heels the past several weeks to "illustrate" Sting's heel point, yet were clearly faces without memory of bad behavior from anyone. So Sting thinks Joe dissed him by essentially making sure that Sting was a completely downed opponent when ten minutes was all that Joe needed to beat him? Where in the world does that make sense? Despite the flaws in the twists and turns of his character, the basics of Joe is that he is a physical badass. Any obvious deviation from that would makes him look out of sync. The same can be said for Roxxi's sudden need to swear like a sailor to define her as "hardcore." I'm surprised Sting has stayed in The Dark Side this long, though. Sad he has to stoop to now making two feuds dredge up heat by bringing in family issues, and forgot to remind everyone that there is no Joe-Sting rematch due to contract reasons. Booker so needs to give up his current gimmick as it lowers his credibilty with every word he utters. The Case? Betcha it's "Feast Or Famine" time with Thanksgiving coming up near next PPV. Kevin, what does Scott Hall have to do with Joe that Sting doesn't? He's your partner next week, and nary a word about that. Crazy how Christy's promo shows up on my best list, but like the delivery of the newest chapter of the Angle-Jarrett saga, it wasn't over-the-top or ridiculous. For as much as TNA hasn't cared about Rock 'n' Rave, there is a genuine sense that Christy did in her segments. Looks like a face turn on the docket, and not a bad thing here. Plugging the move to HD would have been one of those cases where copying WWE would have been a good thing. WWE plugged its switch to HD for seemingly forever before the date. TNA waited until this week for next week's switch? Also, the publicity for the Las Vegas show has been very poor. Morgan and The Beautiful People will be here the day before for a meet and greet, but the show itself has been very badly promoted. The tickets have been on sale for a few weeks, I found out before TNA even pushed it on their own site, and even then it was too late to set aside the date so I could go. The Joint at the Hard Rock seats about 1500ish for shows, and TNA will have no one to blame but themselves if they can't sell out a small venue for a hot-for-wrestling town. Sorry I won't have a HOLT report for this one.

Sam Saunders of Chicago, Illinois (9.0): Best Match: Kurt Angle vs. Matt Morgan. Worst Match: Kevin Nash vs. Consequences Creed. I'm really enjoying where TNA is heading right now. After high profile losses to Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles and now Jeff Jarrett, it's good to see them rebuilding Kurt Angle as the mean, lean, near psychotic wrestling machine this week. I especially enjoyed seeing Angle take out the members of The Prince Justice Brotherhood backstage. Pretty amusing. Sting's promos these last few weeks have all been top notch and of course, the newly acquired belt draped across his shoulder lent his comments further gravitas. The Sting-Styles confrontation which climaxed in an all-out brawl played out well, and I'm very pleased to see he will more than likely be the next big challenger to the Stinger's gold. Styles certainly deserves it in the eyes of most fans, myself most definitely included. Another god-awful promo from Booker T this week, though the match with Hernandez wasn't bad. At least the um, "mystery" of the briefcase will finally be solved next week in Vegas. I don't get why they're teasing this Mick Foley "retirement" so soon after hiring him. Is there anybody actually falling for this? Foley continues to be comedic gold though with lines like "I've got to go take a Kurt and wipe my Angle" (ewww) and his description of Jarrett as all "maverick-y." Roxxi cut an awkward, profanity-laced promo prior to her bout with Raisha Saeed. She can certainly get it done in the ring, but needs to work on those promo skills if they're going to continue to push her (perhaps somebody like Mr. Foley could help her along?) On the subject of Saeed, how much longer is TNA going to continue to push this character at the expense of her Cheerleader Melissa alter ego? I actually like the character, but hidden beneath that burka is a woman as gorgeous as any in wrestling (at least I think so) with the in-ring skills to match. The Christy Hemme face turn that took place at the hands of The Beautiful People this week is said to have been inspired by the void that Gail Kim left. That being the case, I would think that sooner or later they'll unmask Saeed in favor of the Melissa persona. There's also a lot of storyline potential there depending on how they go about it. Nash cut a pretty good heel promo after squashing Creed in the middle of the ring and I like that they're using Joe's "shoot" comments on Scott Hall last year as the explanation for Nash's double-cross. I did find it a bit amusing how winded he was after a near two minute match, though. Insert smarky comment here. Good ending with Angle going over Matt Morgan (who continues to improve) cleanly in the main event and then taking out Abyss. Also glad to see Abyss's injuries weren't too severe after witnessing the fire incident first hand (though he did appear to suffer some legitimate burns). Next week we've got Sting and Nash teaming up to take on Joe and A.J. live from Vegas. That should be pretty good. At the very least it's bound to be interesting. All in all, another strong show this week. Next week's live broadcast from Vegas looks pretty promising as well. I predict at least one title change on that card.
