Torch Feedback WWE Raw Reax #4: "Santino provided more comedy gold this week even if his segment was incredibly long-winded"

Jeremiah Graves of Boston, MA (6.0) Best: Santino's Mic Work, Kingston & Punk vs. Miz & Morrison, Jericho-Batista segment. Worst: Dreadful main event, Mysterio vs. Snitsky. As always, Santino was great on with the mic, although the crowd seemed pretty dead despite him doing a lot of work to build up angst against whoever is chosen as his opponent. The main event, however, was absolutely awful. The booking made no sense. The entire premise of the match made no sense. Obviously whoever goes second gets a much easier match, but in theory, if Batista and Jericho are at the top of the card, they should go over all three opponents. But they didn't want to make those guys (except poor Regal) look weak, so it was very sloppily booked. Jericho is looking too weak, beat by a big boot from Kane?! I assume Jericho retains, because it'd be stupid to take the title off of him now, but that was easily one of the worst main events I've seen in a long time and it in no way inspired me to drop $40+ on Cyber Sunday.
Chris Evans of New Canaan, CT (3.5) Best Match: Miz and Morrison vs. Kofi and Punk. Worst Match: Gauntlet Match. The booking team should be ashamed of themselves for that main event. This was even worse than when DX went over on the entire tag division on Raw. At least, in that case, the tag teams were not all that developed. The writing team fed three top tier performers (two of which are involved in pretty developed programs) to Batista and Jericho. I understand the logic - let's see who the most bad-ass performer is who can really go the distance. Fine. If they wanted to go this route, why not make one of the options at Cyber Sunday at 2-out-of-3 falls match? Vote on the match online and the ref through text messaging. To make Kane and Mark Henry look this weak is inexcusable and pathetic. That being said, the rest of the show felt like driving on four flat tires. Miz and Morrison are phenomenal on the microphone and a match with DX could be entertaining, although I'm pretty sure they'll be losing that one. Their match with Kofi and Punk was good and had a lot of action. Is it just me, or did Punk show some subtle signs of a heel? The frustration when he ran his hands through his hair? Turning Punk heel right now would be fantastic - he needs character development (he is stale) and a reason for people to get involved with him. A mid-level feud of Rey Mysterio vs. Punk as the heel may do him some good. Santino was great as always, although I am not looking forward to his Cyber Sunday match. It's going to be a comedy romp, which is good for a while. But this is the IC Title. It'd be more effective if he had the Tatanka-Tron. Remember when Tatanka went undefeated for like 2 years? (Editor's note: the most-drawn out two years ever.) That would be better for Santino. They can free up the IC Title and give it to someone like Ted DiBiase, Kofi, Jamie Noble, or William Regal and let them have some four-star matches. Anyone else think Cyber Sunday is gonna bite? Yeah, me too.
Alex Roberts in the U.K. (3.5) Best Match: Miz/Morrison vs. Kingston/Punk. Worst Match: Double Gauntlet. I'm starting to get the impression that the WWE has, for the short term, given up on Raw. Absolutely nothing was announced ahead of time for this show and then they started with a diva tag match and no hype for anything to come. I can't see that keeping the casual fan glued to USA for the next two-hours. With that said, the diva tag was better than I expected it to be and I still get a kick out of Jillian's comedy gimmick. The Chris Jericho promo that followed was another excellent offering from him even if the segment as a whole did come off the rails with Batista's awkward and wooden promo and Mike Adamle's incoherent announcement of the main event. The double gauntlet main event itself was an overly complicated and poorly explained mess that ultimately amounted to Batista squashing everyone in sight. Who thought Batista beating Kane and Mark Henry with ease was a good idea? Aren't we supposed to be buying those two as credible threats a little lower down the card on Raw and ECW respectively? I also have no idea why WWE is so intent on booking their World Champion as weak right now, even if it is slightly more tolerable with Chris Jericho than it was with C.M. Punk.
I enjoyed the Kingston/Punk vs. Miz/Morrison match a lot and the finish was also a refreshing change with the experienced tag team getting the win because of their experience. Miz/Morrison continue to be the best tag team the WWE has stumbled upon in years and I have to admit that I quite like the idea of a Punk/Kingston team, especially if the WWE is going to give a renewed push to the tag division, which they should. In general terms I'm quite excited about the potential of the tag division on Raw and ECW, especially since WWE let the tag champs dominate this week. Last week with the Haas Hogan stuff I thought Charlie Haas's gimmick was getting dangerously close to jumping the shark, but the Austin impression this week turned that around. I thought it was hilarious. Speaking of hilarious, Santino provided some more comedy gold this week even if his segment was incredibly long-winded and involved Hacksaw. I have to admit that I'm interested to see how WWE handles the IC Title match at Cyber Sunday. Are they going to deliver the real thing or are we going to get a Charlie Haas impression of the vote winner? If it's the latter then I can see a lot of people who have actually voted being very annoyed and rightfully so. All in all, a forgettable and not especially good edition of Raw, but at least there was no sign of Knoxville this week.

PWTORCH FORMAT CONVENTIONS
For the sake of clarity to our readers (and to save us time editing these same things over and over), please follow these simple conventions when writing Torch Reax:
-Wrestlers teaming together should be connected with "&" symbol (e.g. Hunter & Michaels, Devon & Ray) or with a "/" (e.g. Animal/Hawk, Harris/Storm), but not dashes and not the word "and."
-To designate wrestlers who are fighting, feuding, or wrestling each other, put a dash (-) between them (e.g. Michaels-McMahon, Jarrett-Sting, Hogan-Andre) or use "vs."
-The word versus should always be abbreviated this way: "vs." with a period afterward (not "v." or "v/s" or "VS" or "VS." or any other way).
-Plus, it's just our policy, but we don't indulge wresting promotions' strange spelling fetishes where they spell Raw, Smackdown, Heat, Impact, etc. with the haphazard capitalization of various leTTeRz. It seems very "junior high," so no RAW (it's Raw), no iMPACT (it's Impact), etc.
-Please try to avoid overuse of dot-dot-dots. If you have a thought that's "trailing off," you can use for effect, but otherwise, just use periods, commas, and our personal favorite, semicolons if you dare. We have always had a policy of only one exclamation point and no ALL CAPS. Let your words convey the meaning of your point. There's many to choose from out there.
