2/24 WWE's ECW on Sci-Fi Reax

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Swagger vs. Christian. Worst: Gabriel vs. Henry. This was another one of those one-trick pony shows that relied on one match to carry the show. With barely a dozen total male wrestlers on the ECW roster, Gabriel-Henry was one sad statement that the roster needs a serious infusion. What few weren't present could have done something in place of the Triple H-Orton story video. The promising what-coulda-been feud of Kidd-Noble will not happen, either. As for Tyson, could someone be reading my reviews? The past two have mentioned about working on transition moves and the worry that he'd be limited to RVD's "educated feet" repertoire. I saw less exclusive use of his feet and a much smoother match. The thin roster also gave us the continuation of the Burchill-Boogeyman feud (which I don't want) mixed in with the Burchill-Dreamer match (which could have been fine without the intrusion). Christian-Swagger had some sloppy places, but I'd rather have some sloppiness to counter the obviousness of choreographed moves. Swagger's sequence of shoulder breaker to splashing an upside down Christian in the corner to another shoulder breaker to a power slam was mighty impressive. Christian had one slip of selling late in the match, but did well otherwise, especially at the end. ECW did pretty well with what it has, but it certainly needs more.

Patrick Michael of Rochester, N.Y. (9.0): Best match: Swinger vs. Christian. Worst: D.J. Gabriel vs. Mark Henry. Unlike Raw this week, ECW was an excellent wrestling show. The Henry vs. Gabriel match was a throw-out squash, but Gabriel has not gotten over with the crowd and needs to be taken off TV and re-packaged at a later point. Tyson Kidd's squash match victory was done well, with Kidd really getting to show off his quick, stiffer style that is refreshing to see on WWE TV. Burchill vs. Dreamer was fun while it lasted and these two could have a strong feud if it was given time. However I have to rave about the Christian and Swagger match. This is the perfect example of how you can keep someone strong without having to resort to a gimmicked finish. Both of them have a lot of chemistry together and Swagger is really coming along very well in the short time he has been on the main roster. WWE is protecting him well with the opponents that they have been giving him. It's just a wonder why they are not able to do this with all of their wrestlers instead of letting so many slip each week like Rhodes and DiBiase.
