Christi Lott of Garland, Tex. (7.0): Best Match: Taker vs. HBK Worst Match: Divas Battle Royal. The MITB was a great way to start the show and get fans excited. I was a little bummed to see Punk win but it was a nice surprise. Shelton Benjamin came out as the true star of the whole thing once again and deserves some serious recognition. The divas Battle Royal was a sad embarassment. The past Divas didn't get any recognition and having a man in drag win just shows how little the Divas matter. Matt Hardy winning was nice surprise and done in a good way. Cena winning was flat and uninteresting and the fans reaction reflected that as well. Triple H's win was also the same. Like me, they were expecting McMahons to come out, maybe even a heel turn from Stephanie due to the stipulation being against Triple H and not Orton. Neither match could follow the greatness that was HBK and Taker. It's obivous these two only have maybe one or two more WMs left in them but man can they put on a show. Huge mistake by the WWE to not give these two the highlight, because putting it in the middle of the show gave away the result. An okay WrestleMania.
Mike Metzger of Levittown, N.Y. (8.5): Best Match: Taker-Michaels; Worst Match: (Tie) Kid Rock and the Diva Battle Royal. Bought the show on impulse tonight. Had a great time watching last year's WM on YouTube, but figured I'd bite the bullet and watch the show live. Money in the Bank was a wise choice to get the crowd going. The match was really good, but it was obvious that Shelton was pretty shook up after his dive off the ladder. Sure it was a great spot, but they should've had a better plan for the rest of the match than relying on Shelton to pull off two or three more crazy moves that he wasn't in any condition to excellently execute. Still a good match, but I'd probably only rate it three-and-a-half stars since half the match will end up on the next edition of Botch-a-mania. Then there was the Kid Rock garbage. Hey Vince, is it 2009 or 1999? Sure, it seemed like a clever way to get through the diva introductions, but it still sucked. Then, the buyer's remorse set in. As I'm checking out websites, not paying attention to Kid Rock, I find out that the tag team title unification match got bumped for this crap! Screw you, Vince! So there I sat, royally pissed and that diva cluster&%$# didn't help. It's really telling when the announcers can't even name the participants in the match. The remorse was still in full force for the legends match. Steamboat gave a hell of a performance, but I think it was obvious why that wasn't a one-on-one match. Oh yeah, and why even bother with Mickey Rourke at this point? I loved The Wrestler, but Mickey, you punch like a girl! The Hardy match was decent, but again I have to ask, "is this 2009 or 1999?" They pulled it together, though, even if Jeff did have to beat the ladder gimmick into the ground. Then, it was Taker-Michaels. It took a few minutes, but after that death defying dive by the dead man - buyer's remorse gone! What a match. I totally agree with Keller, five stars easy. The two title matches were solid. Although, I'm really torn on the finish of Triple H-Orton. Yeah, Triple H is the face and deserves his vengeance, but what about Orton?!? It's not bad enough that the guy has to hang around a couple of jobbers all the time and get punked out by Shane McMahon for a little while there. Two months ago, Orton was the fastest rising star in wrestling, and now I think we can say with certainty that any momentum he had is gone. Maybe tomorrow on Raw, Stephanie will pin him in a one-on-one match. Don't get me wrong, the show was still really good. The 8.5 could've been a 10 easily if they swapped Kid Rock/Divas for the tag title match.
Chris Glavin - PWTorch subscriber (6.5): Best Match: HBK-Taker. Worst Match: Divas' match. With the exception of HBK-Taker this PPV would have ranked up there with one of the worst Wrestlemania's ever. The MITB was a good match but far too many spots and an abrupt finish made it a solid opener, but weak in comparison to past MITB matches. The Diva battle royal was atrocious and really a travesty to some of the great women workers and the women who came back to never be seen on camera. Jericho/Legends match was memorably to see Steamboat deliver the way he did. Vince got his "big star" moment, but it is ashamed that the most talented performer on the Raw roster had to be the lamb here. Hardy-Hardy didn't need to have extreme rules, but it did anyways. I think a lot was taken away since there was already a plunder match. The finish was a good one, but once again WWE took it from 0-60 instead of building to a plunder match. HBK-Taker will go down as one of the top 3 matches of all time for Wrestlemania. A definitive match of the year that is uncontested in my opinion. Not more can be said. Edge-Cena-Big Show did nothing for me. The Cena entrance was stupid and Cena winning with no focus on the Edge/Big Show storyline made it such a lackluster win. The main event reminded me almost completely of Wrestlemania 18. Once again a match lower on the card, which should have main evented, outshined Triple H and his "star making" performance (notice the quotes? Good). This match was Orton's to win, but it wasn't meant to be. Vince and Co. if you read these sites Triple H isn't cutting it. Please stop pushing him down our throats. He dominated the match, dominated the feud, at no point seemed to be in peril and buried Orton once again destroying any heel heat Orton has built up over the year. Triple H once again uses his political stroke to bring down an entire roster to his advantage.
