WWE WrestleMania 25 Reax #4: "The MITB match was very well done and other than HBK vs. Taker, I felt it stole the show"

4/5 WWE WrestleMania 25 PPV Reax

Troy Cummings of Derby, Conn. (8.0): Best Match: Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker. Worst Match: Divas Battle Royal. The hype was horrible, but the show was awesome. I knew after the Michaels vs. Taker match, that the PPV was pretty much over. Triple H beat Randy Orton in a dull match, and I wonder if that means that Hunter's push will be diminished for such a borefest. Probably not.

Johnny Cudovich of Cleveland, Ohio (3.5): Best: Undertaker-Michaels. Worst: Jericho, Divas, JBL. The show had the WM-feel, but the weak storylines didn't maintain the gravitas of the event and generally did a disservice to the wrestlers. Five Stars for UT-HBK in what will be viewed as a classic. The drop-off from there was significant. Jericho went from white hot to silly in six short weeks while the Rourke connection went from interesting to forgotten to afterthought ... a waste of Jericho's talent. The Diva mess showed what's wrong with that division, not even the WWE cares who wins. In the end, it's the set-up for the same old joke. JBL's big announcement is that he somehow knew he would quit in haste? Hunter-Orton highlighted all the flaws of Hunter being booked as the smartest, most-connected, toughest superstar with the most dominant moves and a sledgehammer as a weapon. If that guy doesn't win every match, isn't he pathetic by definition? They will say the crowd was "tired" for the final match. If they were like me, they we just bored. WM is judged on a slightly tougher scale and this one didn't live up.

Brandon Clark of Kokomo, Ind. (9.0): Best Match: Taker vs. HBK. Worst Match: Diva Battle Royal. Why on earth we had to sit through the Divas match while the Tag Title unification match didn't make the PPV is beyond me. Other than that minor complaint, I felt this was an excellent show from top to bottom. The MITB match was very well done and other than HBK vs. Taker, I felt it stole the show. Hunter vs. Orton was solid, but the crowd was drained by then and I think their silence in the finishing sequence took something away from it. I was hoping for a little more "extreme" from the Hardy match, but I guess this was a little more family-friendly version of that concept, focusing more on athletic spots than blood and gore. I loved seeing Rey win the IC title in 21 seconds. You don't need a 30-minute match to tell a story sometimes! I am sure plenty of people will post similar comments about Taker and HBK, but let me just say this. I went in expecting it to be a candidate for match of the year, and it exceeded those expectations. Both of these guys are masters of this business, and together they created a true classic tonight. Not a ton of over-the-top spots, no blood gushing, just pure perfection in terms of telling a story. Well done.
